that's all i need, static fee easy convenience/access to phone without spending 500$. re FM transmitter it actually sounds pretty good if the engine and car isnt running.

I hear you re phone and cost! The FM transmitter (I was using a Jabra Freeway) gave decent sound quality in my immediate area where the transmitting frequency was clear. But a few miles north or south and there was intereference from a radio station, and changing the frequency on the fly was a collossal pain. That and if I wasn't streaming, the FM transmitter shut itself off after a few minutes to conserve battery. So I couldn't just use my phone's mapquest app because the unit would shut off between directions. And then it would clip part of the spoken directions before it came through the handsfree's speaker. Or if a call came through and I wanted to use the transmitter I had to hit the radio preset button for the selected frequency and wait for the unit to announce "FM on 88.7 megahertz" before I could speak to the caller. Like I said, collossal pain. The Tranzit is like heaven by comparison!

Quick question, units installed, going to put back together tomorrow. Did you guys just tuck the long aux jack wire that's not used on our cars up in the dash along with all other wires or snip it off? Not sure if snipping it off would pose a problem.

No need to cut it off, there is plenty of space back there to tuck it in tidily.

So I finally ordered and installed my Tranzit Blu HF. Way cool. I wanted to hide my button also. I put it in the cubby in front of the gearshift. The microphone is tucked in the corner at the top of the windshield at the panel for the map lights and HomeLink buttons. It is barely visible there and seems to give pretty good sound (or so say the people I talk to on the phone--even Siri seems to understand me well unless the Targa top is open).

Please disregard the coffee stains on the console.

Here it is from head-on. You can see the wire ribbon tucked in the natural gap in the plastic. It fits perfectly. You actually cannot see it when you are sitting in the car.

Access to the button is within easy reach.

No, they didn't. If you read the first post it says that you need to purchase the adapter separately form Discount Car Stereo or another source.

I bought the adapters at Car Toys. I bet any car stereo store will have them. It will be a bit more expensive--the price of getting it the same day. I was too anxious to install my unit to wait for another order, since I got mine as a gift and didnt receive the adapters with it.

Installed a TransIt BLU HF in my 05 997S earlier today and so far I'm impressed. The install was easy to do myself, thanks to your instructions too ilko, and it's working flawlessly with my Nokia 920 Windows 8 phone except for one issue, the VR is not being triggered when I hold the button for 2 seconds. I'm using a developers preview of Windows phone 8.1 though because it hasn't officially been released yet and Cortana is a new feature that is still being tested so maybe I'll be able to trigger the VR in the future.

FYI, I bought mine from eBay user "702-motoring" and when I paid thru PayPal I sent him a message that I also needed the antenna adaptors for a 2005 Porsche 911 with Bose PCM and he sent me another PayPal invoice to pay for them and mailed everything to me together in the same box within a couple days.

Since this thread is current and alive can I'd like to ask if someone has done this install on a 997.2 with PCM 3.0. I know several local people that have done this installation on 997.1's and I assume the same adapters would be required and the same wires would be spliced. I've just never pulled my head unit to look at the back. I know it's universal and should work with anything. Mostly wondering if it's the same antenna adapter and same color of wires that need to be tapped.

It's likely but I wouldn't assume it. See if anyone has photos of the back of the unit. That way you can be sure.
