Default Tires for the 997

Hi Guys,

It's time to replace the original Pirelli's on my car and I am interested in hearing everyone's suggestions in terms of which brand/model of tire I should go with. This car is mainly driven on weekends.

I don't necessarily need to stick with 'N' rated tires and open to other brands like Hankook, etc...

Thanks!

I like the Michelin Super Sports for the price/performance and ride/noise quality. I had the Hankook Ventus on my Cayman as a street tire and they were good also.

+1 on the Hankook Ventus. I have them on mine and paid 1/2 of what a set of MSS would run you. I'm sure the MSS are great tires but don't think they are twice as good for normal street use.

The MPSS are a great tire, but I personally do not find them to be that great. Dry traction is very good, I find them to very slippy in the wet and even when there is just dust on the road. They are also noisy in my view.

I considered the Ventus V12 as they get good reviews, but I drove a friends vehicle with Nitto Invo tires and was very impressed by the traction and how quiet and smooth they were, supposedly they do pretty well in the wet too. So I have a set here that I will get mounted this afternoon or tomorrow.

Another vote for the Hankook. Awesome tires. Good price.

FALKEN Azenis FK453. See my threads. Just search for it by subject heading. 4 tires. 19" spec. ~ 850$. Excellent. Compared to PS2...a tad less responsive at high speed. But a bargain. Plus theoretically lasts longer (300 AAA).

MSS happen to be my favorite tires I've ever had. Easily the quietest and longest lasting. I don't mind spending an extra couple hundred bucks to get the right tires for me.

For me it's a toss up..MSS vs everything else, since it's the gold standard.

Right now the Hankook Ventus K1-10 are looking very good!

I'll need tires around spring time, for me it's between the S04's and MSS. Depends on what the prices are running at that time but I'm not opposed to the Hankooks, seems a lot of people like them for the price.

I have a cab and don't drive the car hard nor track, if I did I'd go with MSS and be done with it. As some of said, I don't know if they worth double the price for my driving.

Bridgestone S04, great handling, great comfort, wet, while best value, best bang for the buck for street driving.
MPSS, if you track, don't need as much comfort.

IMO, S04 is a steal. Don't waste your money on Hankook and stuff like that.

My car is not a daily driver, more like 50-50 street and track. So my criteria are a bit different:

Pirelli P-Zero Corsa are incredible tires but at an incredible price, over $2200 set of 4 with a 60 treadwear rating. I like the Michelin Pilot Sports and Super Sports.

Was not impressed with the Sumitomo HTR Z IIIs although they get good reviews. Inexpensive and you get what you pay for IMHO.

I'm currently running Bridgestone RE-11s; only two track days so far but they had good grip and held up well; only went off after really pushing hard.

So, you're not concerned about straying away from "N" rated tires?
