Whats the price diff between Hankooks and Michelin PSS..like a $100...get the PSS and be done with it. I just don't understand trying to save $100 on tires that go on a $100k car when in the end the PSS will last longer and drive better in the rain and dry. Every tire test I've seen for street tire on a performance car the Michelin PSS wins. It's a no brainer on what tire to buy.

I got a set of hankook 305/235's installed after tax for $900 (including rebate). Put the money I would have spent into other parts of the car (fister exhaust, etc.)

Hankooks are just fine if your 997 is just a weekend cruiser and not driven hard.

I tend to drive mine about 3K miles a year and for the annual incremental cost of Michelins, which I estimate to be about $125 per year, is not much of a premium for a superior tire. So I will continue with Michelins.

I wouldn't put Hancooks on my 911 again if they were giving them away at Tirerack.

Hey, haven't posted for a while but still tune in to what's happening on Rennlist. I own a new tire/wheel repair/powder coating business and will gladly give Rennlist members the BEST pricing on new tires of your choice.

My 997.2 turbo s came with Bridgestone RB50's which were tracked to pieces that first summer. I put on RB-11's and they were great, both for highway and three years of occasional track use. On their last track day last June, I was turning 2:15 laps at High Plains Raceway, with top speed on the straights of high 130's. Then, in September I ran on Michelin Pilot Sports (with an IPD plenum) and could only turn 2:17 and high 120's. Also at Willow Springs last month, I couldn't get the top end out of 120's. Another driver at Willow Springs said he'd gone with Nitto tires and scrubbed five seconds off his laps there. The Michelins are great on the highway, but so were the RB-11's (which are my choice, until I try Nittos)

Must be RE-11, which are great tires.

Its really simple now actually.

Best overall tire, MPSS.
Best tire value for money , Bridgestone S04
If track mostly and want street tires, RE11, Nitto.

Right now the Hankook Ventus K1-10 are looking very good!
All street hankooks are crap. I love z1 star specs and will stay on them for a long time as they good for summer and have very decent wet grip. But they are not ideal for winter. They also not grippiest ones in dry hot conditions but for street are more then adequate. Google around for recommended tires in autocross street stock classes, it changes from season to season but will give you good idea of what to expect.
It is easy to buy PSS if you don't care to waste $1600, the trick is to spend under $1k on a whole set for even better grip michelin offers.

PSS are $1176 for all 4 at trierack.com. Not under $1k but not too far over...

I switch out my aging PZero's for MPSS from T-Rack for ~$1,200 a few months ago... running 305's in back to match up with my 11.5" Champions. Very quiet compared to the PZ's. Good traction so far for DD in dry and wet weather... plus their "wifey" approved due to the new quiet noise level inside my cabin. Hope the low noise level lasts for a bit.

utkinpol, would be interested in more insight re the z1 star. I had good results with them on my prior M3: Mean tread pattern, sticky as heck but tended to picked up bits of road debris(part of being sticky I suppose)... I could hear them fling small rocks into the under carriage which I learned to ignore over time. I loved how well they held my M3 to the road though. I had considered z1's for track use with my C2S.
