thats because 997 owners have ***** envy over the newer and better car, and hence come up with utter nonsense to claim its crappy.
happened since day one...doesn't make it any less pathetic. Seeing it from an outside perspective is truly revolting, hence I'm calling you all out on it.

If I put myself in a 997 owner's shoes...' I've just spent a lot of money a few months ago or more and a new model of that car comes out...I'm a little jealous '. So I think it's more like they're trying to convince themselves that the 997 is a better 911 rather than others.
Some of the excuses they use to justify that the 997 is better than the 991 are plain ridiculous!

OK, Accolades of Anthony Weiners... the same delusional penal expose did not convince anyone of your mentor's grandeur either. Please... spare us the diminutive pics. Now go pollute elsewhere with your drivel...

The 991 is a fine car, although the looks are a little watered down for my taste. I see the comparison as follows:
993 = CJ7 (basic, rude purposeful)
996 = square headlight YJ Wrangler (more modern and refined, but estectly off)
997 = TJ Wrangler (Best of the breed, last of the real enthusiasts models)
991 = JK Wrangler (Modern and refined, but missing some of things that made it special)

And not unlike the 991, they extended the JK wheelbase - a lot - to widen its appeal and increase sales.

Ok, I can breath now.
Quad: You need to take remedial reading. I don't think anyone said the 991 is "crappy". That's your statement not anyone elses that I've read. Secondly, there are many guys here that have legitmate criticisms of the 991, includng 991 owners and respected Porsche mags. Further, I beleve the demographics of 997 owners would easily establish that they can afford a 991 but many have chosen to keep their 997. You broad stroke comments are unfair and very inaccurate.
Finally, last I checked men have penises so they don't have ***** envy. It's women that have ***** envy since last I checked they don't have one.
Stop being such an angry little man.

I keep coming back to this thread purely for the entertainment value.

I tried to read all these posts but couldn't do so. It seemed like so much mental ************. I find that I almost always agree with Quadcammer but in this case I was at a loss when he brought *****'s into the dialog. It may be so that the newer cars are less amenable to the dyi guy. I just paid 130K for a highly optioned C2S Cab and I have no intention of doing more than washing it to maintain it. Where the high water mark for Porsche 911's is is a totally subjective
judgement. I have owned a bunch of 911's since 1987 (see sig) and for my money it is the 993 that is the essence. I have a good friend with a 2,200 lb early 911 with 220 hp that is an absolute blast to drive. It makes my 993tt seem like a checker cab by comparison. For me it is a go cart, too noisy, no ac, no cruise, no low end torque, no Bluetooth and it definitely requires more skill to extract the best than I can bring to the game. (I felt the same when a friend lent me his 997.2 GT3 that he wanted to sell me). So to me the 993TT is the high point for the 911, and mine is not for sale. And yet I bought a new 991. It is better in every way that I can measure ( remember) when compared to my 09' C2S Cab with PDK. It is not near as much fun to drive as the 993TT but as a DD it is hard to beat. It is fast as he'll, quiet as my Audi at highway speeds, under warranty for longer than I am likely to own it and with the Euro looking shaky it may end up being free to own a German car. You young folks weren't around then, but in the late seventies to late eighties you could by a new German car and sell it three yrs. later for what you paid and do it all over again. This could happen again. So who the he'll knows?
Onward into the fog.....Chris

Nice
I have often thought this of many 993 owners.
As far as 997 vs. 991 goes, I personally will not be upgrading my 996 to either of these cars anytime soon(and no, it has nothing to do with finances palm). However, if I were to buy a newer 911 I'd go with a 997 over a 991, even if the 991 was less expensive.
Disclosure: I have never driven(or rode shotgun, LOL) a 991. I have, however, driven a few 997s when contemplating a switch from my 996. I personally prefer the 996 over the 997.
