Default Drove a brand new 991S and 997GTS

back to back yesterday

First time in either car.

997GTS is a much better "drivers" car in my opinion
991S is a great looking Lexus

Oh boy... Here we go. It's such low hanging bait. So tempting, who will go for it? Will someone be the house cat that gets caught in the coon trap AGAIN?

Let me take the plunge:
Here is what I think...any one of us who is comparing any of the later generation Porsches (i.e. 964 and later models) to each other is fooling his or herself. Because all those cars have some kind of a driving nanny or the other.

Love it or hate it, the 991 is the car that Porsche developed and brought to market.
To believe that *this* time they've really misjudged what their customers want is to
ignore 60+ years of unequaled success, which have made them the most profitable
auto manufacturer on the planet.
We like to think we (here on Rennlist) are the hardcore, informed, real enthusiasts
when it comes to Porsche. But, the majority of Porsche customers ain't here.
And, those folks are buying up 991s about as fast as Stuttgart can crank 'em out.
Gripe about it all you want...it's just the way it is. IMO.

I'm just gonna sit around and wait for all you old farts to trade in your GTSs for a 991 (when the urge for comfort begins to supercede driving feel). )

Sounds like our 997s will be the next 993. The last version before it went big-time GT. In all honesty, I hope they are not moving the 911 upmarket to make room for the Cayman to fill the 911 (more sports car) slot. Everything evolves. Even the new Aventador is being called 'tame' by some and that it doesn't have the 'terrifying nature' of the previous big Lambos. All that said, still stupid fast (0-60 in 2.9 and top speed of 220) and plenty hairy for most. With technology, everything becomes more refined. Personally, I'm not fond of the Panamera's center console being incorporated into all the models - makes the interior feel cramped and isolated to me from the driver's perspective. Remember when 911 floors were flat with just a stick shift sticking up??

Lexus?

You make it sound like the car has a sedan's interior or something.
