I do however know quite a few 997-owning physicians who, like myself, have driven a 991 and either opted to keep the 997 or decided to switch to another car (SL, Aston, Ferrari, etc etc) upon whose niches Porsche are attempting to encroach rather than stick with what made the 911 a unique drive.
I saw one about a month ago on St.Armands Circle in Sarasota. Guards red, covered with bird crap.

This is not a problem; see new BMW diesel engine and specs: BMW has released their tri-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine. "at low revs, the first small turbocharger ensures fast acceleration" which is optimized by variable turbine geometry. At medium revs, the second turbocharger is activated to maximize torque output. Lastly at high revs, the third turbo comes online to help the engine produce its peak output of 381 PS (280 kW / 375 bhp) and 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) of torque." Thanks to all turbochargers, the M550d xDrive sedan accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, averages 6.3 L/100km (44.8 mpg UK / 37.3 mpg US) and has CO2 emissions of 165 g/km.

So you and your friendly crew of 997 owning physicians haven't seen any 991s? Is that supposed to mean something? Surely you know what an anecdote is? Ask porsche how many they've sold if you want some actual useful figures.

Next up, some 997 owners drove the 991 and didn't want one? Ok, again, your point? Some 997 owners drove 993s and decided they liked the older car better. Some 993 owners drove longhoods and decided they liked the earlier car better. I can keep going all day.

Some people will like the new 911 and some won't, 997 owner or otherwise. Just like some people like the 997 and some don't. Lets not be delusional and think that every person who ever drove a 997 liked it.

Finally, some of these people decided to buy aston martins, sls or Ferraris. Thats fantastic. What the hell does it have to do with this?

Some people prefer the 997, others the 991, 996, 993, 964, etc. etc.

Why can't we just leave it there?
Fair question, but...

1 - Why are you so heated up about this?

2 - Are you insecure about your 991 liking as others question the 991?

3 - Are you envious of 997 owners who like their cars?

4 - What's your point?

Bottom line... it's a forum and everyone has the right to express a POV.

1. Why do you get so heated when people talk trash about PDK? Heres my guess, it annoys you cause you think they make stupid points. Same here.

2. Am I insecure about my 991 liking? Not even sure thats a proper sentence. Nevertheless, heres my input. I don't like nor dislike the 991. I don't particularly care one way or another. What I do care about is people making asinine arguments. Sure seems like some 997 owners are insecure about the new car.

3. Why would I be envious? I like my car well enough, I sure don't want a 997 (unless its a gt3 RS or above). Something like a Carrera S does not appeal to me.

4. My point is the "raw, involving, 991 is a gt car and not a real 911, etc" argument is stupid because A) the 997 is already a GT car; B) this not a real 911 argument has been said since the 60s. Its old and stupid. Some clown's opinion here does not change this.

5. You sure seemed to dislike my points of view on issues, enough so to pm me, so perhaps we should just agree that we will practically never agree on anything.

I can't even think of driving a 991 because the sheer site of it bores me to tears. I like the 997 styling a lot better but not the interior. Other than that, I hope my car lasts until I take a dirt nap.

Now you made your point, and it is crystal clear.

My cat's breath smells like cat food.

We'll all be loving the 991 when it's been replaced with an 99x with a hybrid electric motor.

or even before that, when they cram an Audi diesel engine into a 911.... will remind us all of the 924 with it's Audi 4banger, only with smellier fumes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I knew the 991 wasn't for me when the reviewers said the car's ride was much improved over the 997. I'm not looking for a Lexus.

I think you should ditch your stock 993TT clutch and AWD bits. Its still too GT IMHO.
