I took my 997 on its first long distance trip under my ownership. I drove just under 1100 miles from OKC, Oklahoma to Columbia, SC yesterday. Right at 15 hours, including food, fuel, and bathroom breaks. Driving average, according to the trip computer was 78 mph, 28.4 mpg for the trip. My 40th HS reunion is tonight. I’ll make the return drive Monday. I was surprised how comfortable the seat was for that long of a trip. 14 year old, 100K mile seat was very supportive.

Changed out the serpentine belt. Huge thanks to a few youtube videos and a thread here with critical information. Took just about 2 hours from opening the lid to closing it, going really slow and taking my dad on a video tour of the project half way through. Tight spaces and only ended up with one minor scrape that occurred while opening the folding table I lay my tools out on...

Most important tips:
- a strong magnet to get the bolt out through the bumper hole, and try not to drop it...
- a tiny bit of pressure on the bracket makes removing and reinstalling the spacer easy, otherwise forget it
- the rounded end of a socket extension makes for a great tool to slide the belt over the idler pulley while the wrench is in the way

Changed oil, cabin and engine air filters, topped off the coolant, and changed the oil coolant cap to the new '04' version.
Just changed out rear tires - fronts are still good - running Hankook Ventus V12 tires - changing when needed - for over 12 years with essentially same model tire.
(First full set was in April 2011 for $903 including tax and shipping from tire rack)
119k miles and engine seems strong as an ox

Finally installed my 991.2 steering wheel with the GPS adapter and changed the steering column control module. I have to say it makes a HUGE difference. So much better than the skinny triangle with thumb controls! Thanks to all the info on the forum and Paul Li with GPS it was smooth install. I also purchased a Foxwell NT510 Elite and coded the multifunction features myself. Super easy!

If anyone is looking for steering wheel, I found a good contact. Shoot me a DM and I will forward you his contact info. He accepts Paypal Goods and Services. The only way I pay for online merch.

On to the next one... Installing the Sport Mode Retrofit Kit.

Default Replaced cracked windshield

My insurance balked at the cost of OEM glass and my local dealers/installers wanted upwards of $2k for the job so I crossed my fingers and took her to Safelite for under $700. The Chinese glass looks to be of high quality and the seal is properly seated. I found no evidence of wind noise and everything was reassembled properly with no damage to interior components. The installers left a little mess behind but overall I’m pretty happy to have a clear view, my original glass was pitted and had been in need of replacement for some time before suffering the crack on a PCA tour.
