Expecting simple door panel remove, replace part - but the cable needed replacing too, as the old cable doesnt work with the new part (like shown in the video)

Very productive morning. Finally installed DSC Controller and Numeric shifter that's been sitting around for months along with a GT3 alcantara boot and Turbo ****. Then took it out for a long drive and got it nice and dirty. Besides being too quiet the numb stock shifter was the first thing I notices after picking up the C2S and numeric more then addresses the issues. I have GT3 RS coilover suspension on mine and with the DSC controller it's more comfortable and controlled over everyday bumps then both, stock PASM and Eibach springs I previously had.

Likely, you did not need to do it this way, as quite a few of us have repaired it without doing all the work that you did. You could have removed just the broken post piece from the broken assembly and replaced it with only that piece from the new assembly and then the old cable and connections didn't have to be touched.
I have a question for you 997 gurus, I'm looking at this 2009 911 PDK, owner said car does not leak any oil but he does pour in a new quart every 4,000 miles. Does this seem normal? Loving the awesome photos BTW.

Yes, one quart every 4,000 miles is well within the acceptable tolerance and pretty normal. The acceptable Porsche spec is way higher than that, like a liter every 600 miles, which is crazy usage IMO. My 997.1 needs 1/2 quart to 1 quart between 4,000 mile oil changes and my other 997.1 takes about 1 quart every 5,000 miles between oil changes.

Thought about that, but I really couldnt see what was broken, other than maybe the spring had bypassed its keeper and could just be reset.
Without knowing 100% the cause of the failure, I opted for new parts while I was in there (and since I had purchased them), rather that the chance of having to re-do it.
Also wanted to silicone the seal.

I thought the same thing when doing my first one, but if you were to reset the spring on the seat and then actuate the handle like it would be with the door handle use, you'll discover where it's cracked that allows for it to flex and have the spring come off the keeper.

+1 My 997.2 took 1.5 quarts over the last 3500 miles. Blackstone analysis said this was less than overall average for the population. You should be fine with 1 qt every 4k.
I was rearended at a stop light two Fridays ago by the 2000 Jeep in this pic. Pushed the engine forward and to the right and bent the frame downward. I was not injured, but I learned today the C4S will be a total. Other driver insured with Progressive state Minimum with Property Damage Liability $20,000. I am insured with Nationwide, I am a Nationwide agent, and my Uninsured and Under insured motorists is handling from here. I am waiting for total loss adjustor to call so we can determine a value for a 2012 Porsche Carrera 4S Cab with 107,000 miles. The appraiser for Nationwide has received a salvage value offer of $35,000, so maybe it will be either repaired or parted out. I was able to drive home and to the shop no problem.

Not today, but on Sunday I took the new to me 997.2 C2S out to Utah Motorsports Park and had a blast running with NASA Utah. Two good friends came along (997.1 C4S and 718S). We ran the outer loop with is 3 miles and with a pretty small run group you pretty much had the track to yourself. This was my first real opportunity to DRIVE the car, but not my first HPDE in a 911 (thanks Dad). Really focused on the line and being smooth, wasn't out there trying to set lap records! Learned a few things... those sneakers that heel toe just fine at 40% speed don't feel nearly as good at 80% speed, the tire pressures were way too high and it felt like diving on marbles near the limit, it's hard to remember to push the Sport button and I forgot every session. Oh, and I had a great instructor who really helped me on a few tricky turns and inspired a lot of confidence! My favorite exchange during the day:
K (rookie): Hey look at your tires do they look melted!
Me: Didn't you hear that sound while you were driving?
K: The sound of the tires melting?
Me: No that was the sound of dollar bills peeling off of them...
Looking forward to the next event and to join some PCA events later in the summer.
