Installed Dynamat fender liners. An easy project with measurable results. https://rennlist.com/forums/997-turb...-material.html
Apologies if this is a repost.

this happened to me at the 10 year old mark, at slightly under 29k miles. same situation as you, limped home in third and thankfully i was 5 mins from home. having been familiar with the forums, i knew the cable must have snapped (which it did)

was it the shifter cable as you suspected?

Add me to the list of folks with snapped shifter cables....at least that is my assumption. I was shifting from second to third and felt a pop. Now the shifter moves freely fore and aft but does not move left and right, and the transmission is stuck in third gear. Fortunately I was still in the neighborhood just three or four blocks from home so I managed to limp home in third gear. I know the car is almost 11 years old but still very disappointing to have such a critical failure with only about 42k miles on the clock.

After a few broken plastic tabs (I hate footwell lights), managed to replace all interior bulbs with Sylvania LED versions in our 997.2...

What's the trim around your headlights? Is that just vinyl?

They are TechArt headlight surrounds (crazy expensive parts @$400 that just adhere to the headlight with double-sided tape). When I bought the car from the dealership, the original owner had a slew of TechArt parts on the car (Type I rear spoiler, sideskirts for a NB car that didn't fit great on the C4S, front lip, Formula GTS wheels)...the wheels and the headlight surrounds are the only TechArt parts I have on the car currently.
