I think I read a post by petza that he was able to get 18k out of the rears? How is that possible?

I just pulled some Pilot Sports off my Turbo that had around 18k miles and the rears were at about 5/32".

Correct - actually better than that

Tire history from my maintenance records on my wife's 05 997.1 C2S are:
49,800 miles - installed Nitto Invo
62,900 miles - installed 4 Hankook Ventus evo2 (Nitto's lasted 13,000 miles which is why we decided to look at something different for the way she uses and drives her car). I kept the front Invos to use on my car when I wore out the set that was currently installed
86,332 - installed 2nd set of rear Hankooks (set 1 lasted 23,432)
103,000 - current mileage reading and not worn out yet - this puts the front mileage at 40,100 and the 2nd set of rears at 16,668. Looks like they'll probably make it into the low 20,000s as well.

On my silver car, which is driven like it's stolen pretty much every time it leaves the garage and has about 150 more HP than a stock C2S because of the supercharger, I run the Nitto Invos for the extra grip.
35,900 installed 4 Nitto Invos #1 on Champion RS171 wheels
47,700 installed new ADV1 wheels with another new set of Invos #2 (original Invos still good) - sold the ADV wheels with set #2 at 49,000 miles and put the Champions back on
53,000 installed new Forgeline wheels with another set of Nitto Invos #3

Champions still have set #1 on them - rears are about done - fronts are good for another set of rears. Mileage on that set (53,000 - 35,900 - 1,300 deduction for ADV time from odometer) is 15,800

Silver car has a full Stage 2 race suspension (Bilstein damptonic coilovers, monoball top mounts, LCA, toe steer kits, camber locks, etc) and is corner balanced and running the GT3 alignment settings below. Alignment and corner balance was done on 4/16/2014 at 42,000 miles and hasn't needed to be adjusted since - probably because there's aren't any rubber bushings left to wear and everything is locked down tight.

This is a negative 1.3 rear camber and shortly after it was down to the cords. I don’t have my specs with me, but when I put on the new set On i had them adjust it to negative 1.1, barely in spec. Cornering has been affected more than I like, but as of now I do not track my car so it is okay. Surprised how .2 degrees changed the cornering

From the picture, the cornering is not the only thing to be changed... ;-)

Transmission (PTX) and AWD controller fluid change + Function First orange transmission mount insert. Nicely stiffened and smoothed out shifts, particularly between gears. Tomorrow I'll see if the clunky 1-2 cold shift is improved. I can't detect any added NVH from the insert, and actually think maybe I should have gone with the firmer yellow model. (I'm actually trying to dial in some rawness and noise.)

Edit: Day 2 feedback - slight increase in vibration at idle, but not in an annoying way. Shifting all around is sharper and noticeably improved. Good mod.

I thought toe had more to do with inside tire wear than camber.

You made that sexy cream 997 even sexier with that sticker!

From this morning's drive. Pretty scene, I thought. Overnight rain kept it relatively cool...T

Obviously that tire has done its duty but I'm kind of impressed by the relatively even wear. I've attached a picture of how my rears have typically worn on all three 997's (all H&R lowered) which is quiet different. This is how they all looked after 10K to 11K miles. See how they've basically ridden on the inner 2" to 3" with the outer most portion almost untouched. I seem to have gotten a little bit more out of them after some adjustments but how anyone gets over 20K on the rears on a lowered 997 will remain a mystery to me. And to the mechanics at my dealership who have dialed everything out for maximum wear rather than maximum track handling. As mentioned earlier, they made some additional adjustments with the latest set of rears so we'll see how that goes.

do you know what sort of adjustments they did? Always best to ask for an alignment report. I’m at 12k miles and so far the wear is absolutely even and normal with rear camber and toe within factory spec

sandwedge, my rears were about the same at 9k- Except I hadn't lowered the car yet. I suspect that my toe settings were likely way off, resulting in the egregious inner tread block wear. Oh, I also don't rotate tires (which probably makes a difference), but I'm not sure if anyone else does either, since doing so requires a full dismount, etc. Would be interested in hearing from others if this is part of their routine!

I've since lowered, also on H&R and did an alignment at that time as well, requesting toe and camber settings that favor tire longevity. I'm hoping for the best.
