GT3 is fine on the street as a DD. And once you drive it, you'll know immediately whether it's for you. Just be sure to run it up to redline a few times!

You're lucky to be able to decide based on which car "speaks" to you. It's usually my wife speaking to me that makes the difference (I had to promise to demo. and remodel our kitchen just to get her on-board with the idea of a GT3). OTOH, she is the one who, honestly, told me to get the 911 when I was complaining about it being too self-indulgent.

Uhhhh, wait 9 months, I am being told the 991 will be out 2012 911's. Much better and newer with standard options that the GTS has today.

I ended up choosing the GT3 over the GTS due to weekend use and 1 to 2 per month track use/AX.
For DD in LA on street/freeway I would have done GTS with PDK.

I rented a carrera for a day with PDK and thought it would definitely be the way to go for a DD. You can get sport chrono w/o dash wart.
The shifts are almost seamless and I felt the car was an extension of my inputs. You don't need to wear out your left knee to enjoy a 911. A clutch will get old very quickly in daily stop/go traffic.

Good luck getting to drive these cars back to back. Many dealers will be hesitant to let you drive a GT3 in particular but you might as well ask. I speak from experience.... Best of luck and happy holidays

One thing no one has mentioned is that the GT3 is pretty riced out looking, which might get unwanted attention when parked in a parking lot, if you're serious about using it as a DD, I assume you'll be taking it out to do everyday stuff. The regular 911 is almost common enough that it won't get attention, but a giant carbon fiber wing?

I bought a GT3 for pseudo-daily use and ended up trading it back in (for turbo). While it was an amazing machine, I felt that the GT3 was too raw and on the edge for DD car. Everyone's different though so you are smart to try both.

I felt the same with mine (speed yellow didn't help). Beautiful car to too much for me for a DD.

I prefer to think of it more as Spätzled out than riced out.

You've got such a great turbo I would be tempted to wait for the 991.
The GTS is no doubt the pinnacle of the 'touring' 997s which is what Porsche wants you to believe so that they can sell cars in the lame duck period before the 991 hits.

The GT3 is awesome but I agree that if you're not going to track it then it's probably not the best DD.

I think the giant carbon fiber wing that you are referring to is on the GT3RS. The GT3 has a smaller body-color wing.

For me it would be the GT3... the name, what it represents and the the bullet proof GT1 derived engine are too much for me to turn down.

However, for street use I would imagine the GTS is just as much fun or more fun. Without really getting into the torque curves of each car I can surmise that the GTS probably makes more low end torque and thus will feel ballsier on the street with its low down usable power. I could be wrong on this since, like I said, I have not seen any dyno graphs from either car. But, my guess is that the higher singing GT1 engine in the GT3 does not posses quite the grunt down low that the power kitted 9A1 does and in the end HP figures are what.. less than 30hp apart.

I have been debating the same question. In fact I have a GTS on order at the local dealer, but have been backing away now that '10 GT3 prices are at/below GTS levels depending on options.

I have driven an '08 GT3 and '10 C2S - they are miles apart in driving experience, so your test drive should be informative, and I'll be very curious to hear your thoughts.

I have other transportation so the new P-car will not be a true DD, and I want to get into some track time - which is why I am leaning GT3.

As others have said, the engine/transmission alone are compelling reasons to want a GT3, but I very much prefer the "stealth" appearance of the GTS.

Keep us posted!
