Buy a used low mile 997.1 gt3

It will save you depreciation, and has the best looks in my opinion

I drove a turbo and owned a 997 C4S before my gt3.....both are numb in comparison. I hated the awd feeling

I think if you get a regular GT3, either gen 1 or 2, in a subtle color like Atlas or even Dark Olive metallic the rice/spatzel factor goes way down. I would get the GT3 (and I would get to the track...)

Heh.

If I weren't going to take this car on the track (or weren't going to take it on track often), I'd get the GTS. The GT3 isn't "too much" for the street, or unusable on the street, but it is more track focused, and I'd rather have the more street focused vehicle if I were using it more on the street. This, however, would only be possible if I had a different vehicle to be the track car.

+1. This sums it perfectly.

GT3. Every new version of the GT3 is more "street" compliant than the last...

Drive them both, then make a decision...

Have you driven them yet? I'm interested to see what you thought.

I have lusted after the GT3 for a while. But with the wide body, 2-wheel drive, the GTS seems like a de-tuned GT3RS.

Mike in CA: I understand what you are saying- we haven't seen the car in the flesh yet.
But too close to GT is simple simple math. The size of the 911 has been increasing incrementally for quite some time, and at some point, it ceases to be a true sports-car and becomes a GT. Right now I'm 50/50 on it until I really see it, but I've got a strong, weighted 50% that's perceives it's getting too much length. That said, the slightly wider track doesn't bother me, nor does the horsepower increase.

We'll all see soon enough.

As far as the OT- I'm kinda in the same thought process though there are more than two choices I'm weighing out... for me, for a DD I don't think I want that GT3 wing in the rear-view mirror all the time, and I want the PDK in a DD (although the 6-speed is so traditional Porsche), so for me between those two, I'd go with the GTS as first-choice. But I really have a pull towards the GT3 nonetheless.

GTS is a great car but I think if you are considering a GT3 and get the GTS you will always still want the GT3. Go ahead and get the car you really desire the GT3 if you do not then you will always regret the choice.

I did the same thing when I bought the Targa 4s I really wanted a Turbo I was not happy so now I am taking a bath on the Targa and spending even more money on a Turbo S. Save yourself a costly headache get the car you really want with every option then drive it like you stole it

What caused you to get the Targa instead of the Turbo? Better understanding of your situation will help people apply your experiences to their situations.

I was trying to save Money being a tight wad in nature. I had saved for 15 years to pay cash for the car. I had enough to buy the Targa but not the Turbo without a loan. Drove the Targa but since it wasnt my car I didnt drive it hard enough or long enough. The car is way more than I really will ever need but It didnt wow me enough left me wanting just little more. I thought about the GT3 but I have a very bad back and knew the ride would not suit me. So now I am waiting on a Turbo S Cab. I fugured I would get everything I wanted reason for my 190+k MSRP Going to lose 25k min on the Targa and spend 90 K more I was a dumba$$ for not borrowing 40k. But I had a good year year before last so I have the cash to pay in full for Turbo S so I am not sweating the money wasted too much. I will make more

I have now lived long enough to be lectured by a Honda driver on the rice quotient of my GT3! To each his own.

Buying an older Porsche is like marrying Joan Collins. A fine ride when it was younger but newer models provide vastly greater performance. Wouldn't swap my 997.2 GT3 for any older P car, just couldn't take the step down in performance. Like going back to Windows 3.1
