Default Oil change at 2000 miles?

I just turned 2000 miles on the C4 and would like some info as to should I change the oil? I did a search, and know this has been discussed and buried in past threads, but was unsucessful in locating this info. I believe I recall some members doing it at 1,500, 2,000, and 3,000 miles. My car being a daily driver, is mostly stop and go. Any direction or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This is a feel good thing. The book says 20,000 miles. Some do change at 2,000 and lots wait till 10,000 or 20,000. It has been said that the one a 2,000 mile oil change does good for is the shop who does it! Just do what you think is best and makes you feel good.

On my '05 C2 changed oil at 2K. Salesman advised me it was a waste of $, but did it anyway. It's true that it is not required and maybe not needed, but it can only be a plus for the engine.

Here's a very good detail on how to DIY oil change.

Do it Yourself Oil Change

This should help!

I recomend chaging once a year or every 7500 miles, if you track the car often or drive hard i would recomend 3000-4000.
I do my own every 3000-4000 or twice a year

I changed the oil at 2200, and the shop that did it - I couldn't be bothered - was amazed at how dirty the oil was. Granted, dirty oil can do its job, but they found glittery bits in there, not unlike the oil change DIY posted here by [I believe] OCBen. Also, my car was consuming around .5 quart every 500 miles, so I had reason to be concerned. Since the oil change, I've had zero oil consumption. I'm at 3100 right now.

Disclaimer: my car was at redline at 80 miles and at the track at 300 miles. Half of those 2200 were track miles.

That's about my schedule for all my vehicles. I would feel comfortable with this. Thanks for the responses and the DIY. I'll be changing my own oil.....I always have.

After much discussion back and forth on this forum I have decided to change my oil at between 8 and 10 thousand miles. With the synthetic oil any changes more often that that is just good oil down the drain. The move to synthetics was done partly to extend the intervals. People have a hard time adjusting themselves to this and will do what they want, regardless. If the FACTORY is telling you that a change at 20,000 is suitable to maintain your engine warranty, what on earth do you think you're gaining by changing it at 2,000 miles?

I've done it once at 3000 miles although I was advised it was not necessary. Like someone said, it made me feel better since I've always done the same on my other cars.

It is recommended to do the initial oil change at, or not long after, the end of the breakin period in order to remove all the metallic particulates that accumulate as a result of the wear-in process. After that, once a year should be adequate, or every 15k miles, whichever comes first.

Don't forget that oil, regardless of mileage, should be changed every year. How many of you are doing over 15,000-20,000 miles a year?

I'm doing it at 10000. Since the dealer is over 200 miles away I can change tires at that time if need be and do any other work that's pending.

Did it at 7500, that's the number I am comfortable with!
May be a waste of oil and a few bucks, but I feel better!!
I am thankful it's so easily done!!

I am at 11500 miles in 10 1/2 months, and will likely do the once a year oil change. I have added 3/4 quart oil so far in over 11000 miles. Its funny that people want to follow the 'book' on beak-in recommendations, but not the oil change recommendations. It makes no sense for the dealers to disuade customers from oil changes. Similarly, if one followed the breakin recommendations, then more than likely the oil is in excellent condition as the engine has yet to be driven hard.
