Default Do you let the valet guys drive your car?

I hope this is not too pretentious a question. With my other cars, I always have. I have friends that don't let the valet guys tough their car.

Sure, it's only a car. I went to Mastros last week and had my car valet parked. I saw a AM Vanguish, F 360, F 430, Ford GT and a Gallardo. Was not too worried about my 02 996TT.

I pay to have them keep it up front. Sometimes, they say they will, but don't, citing "police told me to move it". No harm in either event.
In a way, it's like serving good red wine at dinner. You have to pretend each bottle just cost a dollar, or you're thinking about each $10 sip your guests are drinking. It's a car, gets driven, gets wet, gets dinged, gets vandalized. They are hard to enjoy unused. Mostly, people sell perfect cars to the next guy who gets to enjoy it more.
The E55 I picked up with 7,000 miles was babied by it's owner- no rain, no snow, etc. It's now my beater, and I love it. AS

I have an issue with them swearing off all accountabilty for any damage caused when they have your car or when their kids are driving them backwards into a curb. I've had a 3" dent put in the door of a brand new BMW to be told by the Manager - "based on our in depth investigation, we didn't do it."

When asked about how this "in depth investigation" I was told - "I asked the guy on duty if he did it and he said no." You generally won't choose a restaurant by what valet company parks cars there, so they're basically free to do what they want. (BTW, in case this happens, a spirited discussion with the owner/manager of the restaurant usually does the trick)

It's your car and your insurance/money, gamble as you see fit.

I was a valet parking attendant for Harrah's Club one summer during college. I watched as a valet parko backed Bill Harrah's Ferrari Daytona (yep the one with -1- license plate featured in Road & Track) into a brick wall.

I think Eric has it right. Never!

No. Especially the younger ones. Many of them have developed the ability to lie right to your face; like it's a normal thing to do.

Absolutely, never. Even assuming the attendant doesn't run into another car or a wall, way too many ways to screw up your car--pull in too far into the space and bottom out the front bumper on the stupid cement parking blocks, or worse, hit it just right and you can ruin a radiator; back into the space too far and grind the exhaust system on the stupid cement parking block (major pet peeve--why do they have to make those things so darn high, that even my normal height cars bottom out); unless you have a Tiptronic (which I do) you have to worry about your clutch.

Recently my boss (who offices in CT at corporate HQ) came down for a visit, and I drove her and I to dinner in the Club Coupe. She could not believe I didn't let the valet take it. I told her all the reasons, and she said why not tell the guy to be careful. I said, I could also explain to a monkey how to park the car properly and get about the same chances of success.
