rshanholtz. I just called my dealer and he did help your dealer.....This is great.
I also think that maybe the antenna placement might be contributing to my problem. Would you mind advising me of the phone number and the person who was working on your install. My dealer will give him a call tomorrow and see if we can change my location........maybe this could be the answer to my problem...'thanks again

My dealer did call Victoria and was given antenna installation recommendations which ultimately did not work with my car. Danbury Porsche then installed the antenna differently with favorable results. I will try to get better detail tomorrow but would recommend your dealer call 203-744-5200 and ask for Jeff Bobbins in Porsche Service for more details. You may have an antenna problem or a combo problem.

Is there even an upgrade disc to go from 2.1A to 2.1B at all? Maybe you could ask them since they are heavily involved?

TSB
How do you see the details of the TSBs? I logged into Renntech and see all of them listed but cannot see the details.
Maybe you could also post the TSB details if you can see them?
Thanks so much!

Much like rennlist, it's the best $40-$50 you'll ever spend.

La Jolla Audio
I work two blocks away from this store, and had them install a complete DVD/Sat system in my mercedes a few years ago. Top notch place.
If anyone needs information from them, I will be glad to pick it up and post it

Hello Again! Back from the ski trip and catching up. No broken bones so I am going for the sat install this weekend. A tech from a local dealer will "assist" me. I will leave it at that until I figure out how he (tech) / they (dealer) want to handle other installs - if mine works.
Reading the posts, looks like another driver got the sat install working (rshanholtz). I am a bit confused on the "antenna install location" issue. It was my understanding so far that one simply replaces the existing NAV antenna, i.e., mounting location already exists. So I am a bit confused about how people are changing that location and how same would be mounted. Are the successful installs so far leaving the NAV antenna in place and adding a second antenna? Or, are those people using the replacement combined antenna and changing the location of the combined antenna?
I will chime in that different people may have different successes with different locations based on geographic location, i.e., latitude and longitude. Sort of like how to aim the DirectTV dish based on where you live?
Anyway, I will hopefully know more by Saturday night. Wish me luck!

I spent some time tonight "eyeballing" the trunk. I took off the battery cover, and then the 2 plastic panels on each side of the battery cover. Pretty easy. Then I "unsnapped" the plastic covers on each side of the cowl panel (looking at the wipers, its the plastic panel under and just below the wipers). If you look carefully, there is a cover on each side of the cowl panel. Those pull off pretty easy to reveal a "nut" that unscrews to remove the cowl panel. There is also a hex screw in the middle of the cowl panel that must be unscrewed. And, there are two plastic "snaps" holding down the cowl panel inside the battery compartment that must be "unsnapped". Finally, there is a small plastic cap at the base of each wiper that pulls off to reveal a "nut" that must be unscrewed to remove the each wiper (the wipers must be removed to then remove the cowl panel).
So.... That looks to be fairly benign. That cowl panel must be removed to get to the NAV antenna.
Looks like all the plastic around the NAV unit / CD player, etc. removes pretty easy to get to the wiring in there. A few screws here and there. And then I guess you can get to the screws that hold the NAV unit and CD player in place to remove that stuff to get to the wires. Again, looks fairly benign.
What I did NOT see is how to route the antenna leads from the SAT unit to be installed in the NAV / CD player area out to the battery area. All the other wires are in two large wire harnesses and it does not seem that an easy "fish" will work. It might become apparent later when its all taken apart. This part seems minor but a question mark.
I snapped everything back into place and came inside to look inside the parts box. In the parts box, there is the SAT module, the antenna with a funky mounting bracket that may or may not look like the existing mounting bracket (which I cannot eyeball yet without removing the cowl panel). Then there are a bunch of smaller bags of plastic parts and screws / bolts probably unique to the Cayenne install. And, there are 3 wire harnesses. One of the harnesses look like the main deal (power, MOST, etc.) The other two I have no idea. They might be unique to Cayenne. One of the other harnesses look like more antenna cables (but there are already antenna cables on the other harness) and the other harness looks like its also not needed for a 997 installation.
So, eyeballing it looks like the install is not 'that' hard. In an abundance of caution I will await my "tech" friend before I start the iinstall. I hope to take pictures and will post a DIY unless we do this through the dealer in which case I may not be allowed to watch and snap pictures.
It would be quite helpful if those that did the install, and happen to be reading this thread, chime in with their thoughts. Until then, I will anxiously await Saturday.
