Default Of Course its Raining

After 2 weeks of sunny hot weather in Baltimore, and aside from the nice drive home from the dealer and into my garage with the new 06 997S, it has rained Sunday morning, Sunday night, Monday morning, Monday night, and now its raining again on Tuesday morning and its gonna rain Tuesday all day and night, and Wednesday, and Thursday.

.TODAY...NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS IN THE LOWER 80S.
EAST WINDS 5 TO 10 MPH. CHANCE OF RAIN 60 PERCENT.
.TONIGHT...SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY. LOWS IN THE UPPER 60S.
EAST WINDS AROUND 5 MPH. CHANCE OF RAIN 60 PERCENT.
.WEDNESDAY...MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS IN THE MID 80S. SOUTHWEST WINDS AROUND 5 MPH.
CHANCE OF RAIN 50 PERCENT.
.WEDNESDAY NIGHT...MOSTLY CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE LOWER 70S. SOUTH WINDS
AROUND 5 MPH.
.THURSDAY...PARTLY CLOUDY. A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IN
THE AFTERNOON. HIGHS IN THE LOWER 90S. SOUTHWEST WINDS AROUND 5 MPH.
CHANCE OF RAIN 30 PERCENT.
.THURSDAY NIGHT...PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS IN THE LOWER 70S. CHANCE OF RAIN 30 PERCENT.

You knew this would happen, right?????

Adam

No offence but so what if it's raining?
Unless you'll keep your car for the next 30-40 years (forever) I don't see the point of not driving in the rain.

Good time to go out, find an empty road or a parking lot and practice some driving!

well.... you are right. It will not melt. But I got this car wash stuff ordered from Griot's and its not here yet. So it would sit covered in muck for a few days which also is not the end of the world. Its just the point I guess. There she sits perfectly clean and she just does not want to back out into a thunderstorm. I tried to back up, but a message came up on the instrument cluster that said "NO WAY: Thunderstorm".

Hey Addict, don't succumb to peer pressure, don't drive her in the rain till you're ready! Get it shined up and get a good coat of wax on her. Anyway its obvious you don't need to drive your 997 everyday as you seem to have another car. More power to you!

I know what you mean, I'm sort of like that also and even though I track my car very hard etc. I like to keep her shining!

However, I'm learning to "live like you were dying" which means maybe tomorrow when your Griot stuff comes, the weather clears and you can go out to drive, you'll find out that there is no tomorrow.

Addict, between waiting for the car to arrive and now for sunshine, you really have patience. God bless you. I'd have the break-in period over by now. Just goes to show there are many types of P owners....some crazier than others. Whatever, you decide to do, you'll see that the car will respond in kind. It can take anything and still give you the ride of your life, clean or dirty, you'll enjoy the ride. good luck.

Hey Adam, so you live in Baltimore? ... Umm, so does this mean you won't drive it in the winter time with snow on the ground, rock salt on the roadways? ... Well, fall is just around the corner and winter sneaking up fast. Sounds like when you do finally get sunshine you'll need to take a vacation day at work just to enjoy it.

the only concern you should have is the oily nature of new tires. combine that with some rain slicked roads and I can see a potential problem.

Yeah I am in Baltimore and I will drive in the winter on clear cold days. Ill drive in the rain too soon (well, maybe). I am just waiting for top down sunny weather to take some of the back roads around the county.

Just a bit bummed. Now its supposed to rain till Sunday - not kidding.

I've been so busy at work needing the daily driver to go to client offices that the rain is actually turning out to be a break since I can't drive it anyway.

Now's a great time to learn as much as you can about all the great features you have while you sit in the car in the garage with the PCM and Owner's Manuals in hand. I know I still have a lot to learn.

This has been discussed quite a bit here: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-forum/218502-do-you-drive-your-car-in-the-rain.html
Summary: drive it!

Just put some black sticky tape over that message and drive.
By the time the rain stops your supplies from Griot's will arrive, the sun will shine and you can enjoy the intimacy of washing your new ride.
