But as you say, both my failures happened before either indys or dealerships could or were allowed to repair PDK's. Full replacement by Porsche was the only option.

Some indys now say they know how to replace the most common causes of the failures. The most common one being the so called distance sensor. The cause of both my failures. Porsche's policy used to be not to sell that part to anyone. So again, they created any PDK failure as a full replacement event with a rebuilt unit from Germany. As you say though, this has changed with indys now able to work on PDK's with replacement parts created and built outside of Porsche's monopoly on those parts. Right or wrong, at least this is what I've read here and elsewhere. Not sure to what extent Porsche dealerships are allowed to take PDK's apart and repair with OEM parts.
Great summary Sandwedge. As to the bolded sentence above, dealerships are still not authorized by Porsche to repair the PDK other than replacing the valve body and a few other minor items. Most will not tell you that indys can now repair it either.

Currently there's a couple of aftermarket suppliers making a replacement distance sensor that are all conspicuously priced the same at about $2k each. There was a recent update from @jjrichar that he's within a few months of having replacement distance sensors available tentatively priced at $500 each. He also will have a speed sensor replacement for around the same price, maybe a little less. I'm still working with him but have had to back off due to personal commitments. He's a good guy and his attention to detail is excellent, so I expect the finished product to be very high quality.

A 911 with a stick shift is a completely engaging sports car.

A 911 with an automatic a PDK, properly driven by someone who understands it and is not prejudiced, is a thing of beauty.
Fixed that for you.

Only a moron can make a comment like this.

if you are not going to post something useful, or related to the question, go away

only 30% of the Porsche 911 are manual and they are very hard to get, my 997 is tiptronic, it wasn’t my first choice, I would of prefer a manual but couldn’t find it.

Once again, im looking for .2, but can only find PDK, so that is my reason, but I don’t see any problem with PDK.

Again, don’t be an idiot and try to be respectful of people. Only if you can.

Whoa....
After you've been around here for a little bit, you'll come to know that he has a very playful (and somewhat provocative) sense of humor...

Stick shift vs PDK is a longstanding battle point in these parts....

I didn’t post a poll to see which one is better or ask for opinions, I was asking for how reliable the PDK can be.

Lighten up Francis.

It's a joke. Scott Adams (of Dilbert fame) made the comment that 1/3 of the population has no sense of humor. They'll laugh at someone falling in a mud puddle but cannot see humor beyond that. He's proven right every day.

I have sense of humor, with real humor.

You call it a joke, I call it a passive aggressive comment.

perspective and opinions, right?

I'd say you're strung pretty tight.
BTW I saw another PDK owner passed out on my Porsche Indy shop's floor last week. ---->He was just handed his +$15K PDK repair bill.

I’d love for you to explain what exactly you think is wrong with attracting women to this hobby we have.

If you have nothing constructive to add (and you haven’t for years), then please take a break from this forum. We all have heard 100x from you how your mechanic bore scopes an engine. Enjoy your 356 and please come back here when you have new material.

I wouldn't bother with that guy. He's demonstrated time and time again that he's only capable of making juvenile jokes. I mean, he doesn't even change his own oil. What a sissy.

I think it's interesting that almost every post involving a PDK requires a response from GZ, who hates PDKs and the people who drive them. Very helpful though
