Default 2005 C2 130k miles oil analysis

Hi all,

Looking to purchase this 2005 c2 with 130k miles, but seller wants it gone quick as he has other sellers lined up (tomorrow) and I’m unable to get a ppi + borescoping in time. I had a phone consultation with the almighty @groovzilla and was recommended to share these oil analyses that the seller provided with y’all. I’m not familiar with these oil analyses, but preliminary research shows that it looks good. What do you think? Is it worth the gamble?

IMS hasn’t been done to this M96 early build 10/2004 either.

also on original clutch+flywheel.

seller has an extensive maintenance list during his 7 year ownership since 2017: 07-29-2017

I wouldn’t risk it without a ppi looking for the bore scoring. But then again, if you’re willing to roll the dice and have $$ for a potential $30k rebuild then go for it!

Iron and copper are a bit high in that first report, but we see that with Mobil 1 oil and some of the LiquiMoly ones and for 5k miles on that run, probably OK. They just don't protect the main engine bearings well.

For only 1,100 miles in that 2nd report, both iron and aluminum are higher than they should be. Iron should be 4 or 5 after4-5k miles and aluminum should be in single digits after 4-5k miles. With 7ppm after only 1,100 miles, I'd expect it will show 15-20 after a normal run and that would be a clear indicator of scored cylinders. I would not proceed with this particular car without a boroscope prior to purchase based on those UOA reports.

For comparison, here's a UOA report on my wife's 05 C2S showing metal wear numbers at various time and mileage intervals. Even the run of 7,800 miles where I missed the oil change is lower than your sample at 1,100 miles.

If the price is right, and you like the car, I would roll the dice. (I would cap max price at 30-35K due to mileage and clutch/IMS unsorted)

With the car started from a cold start, look for uneven soot on exhaust and listen for any ticking/knocking, any issues with those and I would walk.

Visually inspect, brakes, suspension. I would measure paint depth around car. (Should fall between 4-6 mils)

Nah, pass.

Don’t get rushed into a purchase like this.

I PPI’d two 911’s before finding the third and final one… the best one as well for $12k and $6k cheaper than the others.

There will always be another 911 around the corner.

Thanks all for your feedback. The car sold last night so probably dodged a bullet here. Seems like the seller was in a rush to sell the vehicle and did not like the idea of a PPI.
Thank you @Petza914 for sharing your oil analysis and insight. I was only looking at the metal numbers and disregarded the miles. You are probably on the money about the borescoring since the seller listed for $24.5k and agreed to sell for $21k.

There will be another one !

That was a great deal IF the seller would have allowed PPI & Bore Scope Inspection. Always suspect when seller is in a rush and won't allow the car to be inspected.
Just can't take a chance.
However at $21K if I was in same position I'd probably be tempted to buy it when you consider a roller'e are selling for $13K

With a price that low buying the car would have made sense if you liked it. You could have had it rebuilt by Slakker Hartech and still been under $50k with a new, stout and upgraded engine.

Cheaper to buy an old horse to pull it

Yeah, but now you're down to 1 horsepower - that's worse than an LS swap. I'd rather have the extra 399 horses and the flat six wail of one of Slakker's 4.1's.

Id bet atleast 4-5 horse power. Some horses can generate up to 15 horse powers!
