Where I live, there's no difference in other drivers' behavior whether I'm driving my 997, Durango or Passat.

There are good/attentive drivers, bad/inattentive drivers (and the full spectrum in between). But being in a 997 doesn't make a noticeable change.

Karl.

The ones that scare me the most are the tailgaters that are fooling around with their phone.

Really gets me fired up.

I mutter to myself "everyone wants to race a Porsche..." IDK why. When I had lesser cars I never felt like doing this. Insecurity, I suppose.

Something about Jacked up pick ups, those Sh:tty coal burner diesels, and chicks in minivans. They all want to race. I never engage, I have a Carrera GTS and have nothing to prove.

I don't recommend or suggest anyone do this. Thse days you'd probably be shot.
Same in southwest Florida. Large pickups seem to be the worst offenders. I have them right up at my rear bumper all the time and yes, it really ticks me off because as someone else said, if I have to slow down quickly because of whatever in front of me they don't have the brakes to stay away from the rear of my car. I've had two rear ends in the past 5 years.

I used to show my displeasure to these idiots in various ways but as groovzilla says, these days you'd probably get shot just by giving them the middle finger. So I just get out of their way one way or the other and let it go. As pissed off as I am doing that I bet there's a gun in many or maybe most of these outrageous pickup trucks that just seem to treat fellow motorists with as much disrespect and irresponsibility as they can muster. Guess it's a hobby or something of theirs. Can't relate.

At the 90 mph I normally drive in the 997 not too often

Good thing, because when the light turned green, it took off like a rocket.
Like I was stopped and it was full speed passing me.
Damn! Those are fast accelerating cars. Figure I could out perform them on the curves
but not on a drag race. Be warned about these EVs.

Just distance race them - after 300 miles you're all set

If i am being tailgated in the slow lane, I will just slow down until they decide to pass. It never takes long. If a big rig does this, I will purposely slow down while ascending a hill until i know he had to downshift. Usually it takes miles for them to catch back up to me.

My experience has been mainly idiots who want to get by, so I let them. Then they slow down and I end up passing them. They act pissed off and all I am doing is using the cruise on the open highway. A few times I say screw it and leave them as a distant rear view memory. Sometimes I’ll have teenagers pull up at a stop light who rev their engine, just because they want to hear the Porsche rev. I’ll oblige them and they simply say something positive or give a thumbs up. One time I heard the passenger of a pickup say “dude, let’s not try and race a Porsche”. It’s not unique to the 911 though. My previous ride was a pro charged GT Mustang. Total sleeper that surprised quite a few of the interstate idiots.

Glad you started this thread. I thought it was just me attracting every idiot driver while trying to enjoy a pleasant drive in my 911. The worst is when they pull up to me at a light and want to race.

No issues here in NY (Eastern LI) surprisingly....with the 911s I am left alone for the most part. The sad part many other 911 owners don't wave back.

When I had the Audi RS3 and the Giulia Quadrifoglio, everyone wanted to play, which got old very quickly.

Happens more in slow traffic or on ramps. A lot of times I don’t think they notice how close they are. I’ll sometimes turn around a give a big wave or make eye contact in the rear view mirror and they figure it out.

It was worse when I had the GT3, but the 997.2 still gets people that need to show me how fast their Durango GT is…. I don’t drive all that fast unless it’s an all out rode trip… it’s usually American cars, bmw’s and Audi’s. All the cars that’ll be worth 10k in another 5-10yrs…. Something that we’ll never see
