New stone guard

New stone guard
Hi all,
Recently had my car paint corrected and ceramic coated, turned out incredible.
The passenger side stone guard is not salvageable. Guy who did the correction was worried about removing stone guard and pulling paint off behind it.
Any thoughts on it's removal and replacement? Am I crazy to think putting a matte black replacement over is an option?
Thanks

FYI, I picked up a set of black stone guards off ebay, which
I installed directly over my clear guards. While the material
is thinner, the dimensions are exactly the same as OEM.
I did use a slip solution when installing, which let me match up
the edges of the new and old stone guards perfectly.
If you remove your old stone guards it seems like people
have a lot of success with using steam and going slowly.

I was in the same boat as you about a year ago! I have an '05 997.1 and I sent hours removing the old plastic material. The paint under the old plastic looked great after buffing the paint. I did not install any new plastic but bought a magnetic Carbon Fiber look product that is good up to 140 MPH. Several of my friends in the PCA liked the look and ordered the same item. PM me if you need the name of the company.

I put cf vinyl ones over my yellowed clear ones to not risk pulling the clear coat from the paint during removal. If you are going to remove them, use a steamer and good them good and warm and misty.

Mine looked just like yours before my recent paint correction and ceramic coating. My shop was able to remove them with a heat gun, plastic scrapper and a lot of patience. One very small spot of paint came off at the very bottom of one side and was well repaired before they installed new clear PPF cut in their shop from a pattern they had. Very happy with the result.
