Thanks for the comments/evidence.
I remain perplexed until hearing from a Porsche exhaust engineer's explanation.
Seems like it would cost more to fabricate headers with those airflow "flaws" without any corresponding gain in performance.

Also interesting that the headers are the same (identical part # in PET?) on all the 9A1 engines.
Peter, does the M97 engine have those dimples as well? (Though I'm sure your car is not stock!)

Re: X51 headers
This article* states:

"The kit, originally only for 997 Carrera S and 4S models, is far more than just a simple chip retune. It used cylinder heads with flow-optimised intake and exhaust ports, a larger intake manifold and throttle body, flow-optimised X51 headers with a larger cross-section, a third radiator and special maps for the DME control unit."

Hard to square that bold part with dimples and flat spots as flow "improvers".
(And my X51 kit didn't come with a 3rd radiator- so maybe this guy is all wet.)

And it goes on to describe the sole change from the 997.1 X51 version to the .2 is the Variable Resonance Intake System addition.
All that for 23 hp and a flatter torque curve...

The Sharkwerks X-pipe looks damned elegant compared to the bowl of linguine headers in this shot:

sorry bout that. Fixed it above. They were not meant to be links. Doubt many GTS owners here care about GT3 header part #'s anyway.

Although for the sake of contributing here,... I will add that my 997.2 GT3 headers do not have a single dimple, dent, or flat spot (top, sides or bottom).

And the car came from the factory very low to the ground.

I don't think that article meant to imply the 997.2 X51 came with special headers, just the .1's. I did find this, which looks to be a poor copy of the original .2 Powerkit brochure. It doesn't mention headers, just the sport exhaust.

Same "dimples" on mine and it's a coupe so seems pretty normal as you say.

i also found this, which is part of the 991 brochure. It's all about the new 991 but I thought this was interesting.

That's hysterical. It's an AWD one so not that special and priced higher than a low mileage turbo with like half the power, not to mention all the stuff that needs to be gone through after only going 5,000 miles in a decade.

He's al least $40k too high, even with the mileage

That seems very ambitious, particularly for a 4 with a pretty basic spec - plastic dash, manual seats, etc.

I would not buy from RF again. Not going to get into details here, except to say the car I bought was very much not as advertised.

Seems to me a seller asking stratospheric prices should have equally stellar customer service and impeccably honest listing information.
His ad copy guy sure waxes poetic about every car he lists.
First I've heard that comment/review about RF, and I follow the 997 GTS market pretty closely.
Please PM me with the salient details for my own edification, which I will keep in absolute confidence.
Thanks.

Speaking of RF Motors-I want to know why they haven't posted pictures of the '11 GTS cab for $84,999 with 36,100 miles. I even sent them an e-mail asking for pictures and they haven't responded. The option that I'm interested in is XD9 "Wheels painted in exterior color" to verify that they are painted Dark Blue Metallic.

It's important for all buyers of pre-owned cars like these to do their own due diligence. You bought a car from a used-car dealer. However, I will say that Ryan is a great guy who has built a successful business and finds many great cars to sell.

With the GTS cars being made in relatively limited numbers is there a GTS registry? I once owned a 1987 E24 BMW M6, itself a very special car, and there was a registry where most of the cars were accounted for. Anything similar for the Porsche GTS?

I've been thinking of setting one up. Similar to the turbo-look registry. You want to add your car?
