Default Range Rover Sport

Hello! Not looking to get rid of my cayenne or 997.2s. My wife may be looking at getting a new SUV and has eyed the rr sport. I have always enjoyed the looks and was wondering if anyone here owned a 2014 or later supercharged version and what your thoughts are. Looking for reliability and opinions on daily use. Thanks!

Both my brother and father have Range Rover Sports - dad's is an older one with 130k miles on it and still runs perfect. My brother has owned a Sport with the new diesel engine for about a year and it's amazing; the torque is fantastic and it even sounds great - no diesel clatter at all sounds like a V8, and on a long road trip we actually got 30 mpg out of it. I know these don't have the best reliability reputation but neither one of them has had issues with theirs. Hope this helps.

Don't personally have one but my next door neighbor did....key word, DID.

2014 model that he had for one year. 4 months of that one year was spent at the dealership in the service department with the most bizarre issues.

His wife is now sporting a MBZ GLC and pleased as punch.

Could be a one off tragedy or not. I have heard good things about the Jag or even more good things about the Maserati SUVs....but it's only from casual conversations...haven't driven any of those.

There's an interesting thread that talks about the RRS over on the Cayenne 958 sub-forum. It kicked off on a "Cayenne vs the World" theme, and there's some pretty decent dialogue about the RRS in particular (as well as some not-so-great feedback on the BMW X5 and MB ML's). As a 2012 Cayenne S owner I've been following it as the RRS seems to have picked up its game from a performance and reliability perspective with their recent models. Here's the link for some interesting reading: https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-...ut-thread.html

I know close to a dozen people who owned Range Rovers in the last few years, all of them had constant repair issues, none of them planning to buy another. Same with X5's and Grand Cherokees. People I know with MB, Audi, Lexus and Volvo seem to have much less reliability issues with them, but those I know who are happiest with their SUV's are those full-size GM's.

If I was in the market for a big SUV, I would get the Volvo XC90 in a heartbeat. The Maserati is just a Grand Cherokee with (horrible) lipstick.

The RR Sport is beautiful but I don't trust their reliability one bit. I've heard more bad stories than good ones with those.

I have a friend got a Land Rover in the last couple of years and he has stated he would never buy one again. He travels to a different city to get the car serviced from a Land Rover dealer because the dealer in his town charges much so much more. Also he has had reliability issues.

I think Land Rovers and Range Rovers are beautiful cars but from a reliability stand point I'd be worried. If you have the cash to pour into it no big deal, but I'd want something reliable.

Doug Demuro and his Carmax warranty Range Rover, watch the repairs add up:

A friend of mine visiting this weekend said his neighbor just dumped his RR Sport for an Alfa Giulia. The RR always had a warning light on of some sort and he just got tired of the constant trips for repair. Not sure he's moved in the right direction going to Alfa. ..

A friend of mine (also with a 997) has a newer RR Sport (supercharged V8, air suspension, all LED cluster). I drove it a couple of times. It's amazing considering how high and heavy it is. But his ownership experience kind of mirrors that guy in the video. The steering column wouldn't move at all last time I drove it. He also had one side of the car sag about 10 miles from a nearest paved road. And so on.

What is the most reliable luxury performance SUV then? RRS is definitely out. X5 has not been reliable, MBZ drives like an old person's car; anything out there that has shades of Cayenne performance and Lexus reliability?

Lexus (not performance though)... my dad has had the RX for 8yrs, literally NO repairs outside of maintenance. Cayenne isn't that great either.

Land cruiser would get my vote. Parents had range rovers growing up and they were problematic.

This. Or even a Macan S or GTS. Bought my wife a Macan S in early August and it is fantastic.
