It is not a balance issue, perhaps a bit hard to explain outside of I feel that the Falkens are softer, have benefited from current polymer technologies, and provide better feedback than the PS2 design which is somewhat dated. To note, though, both the Falkens and PS2s were bought within a couple months of one another, so both are fresh.
Another contributing factor to vibration could be the Bilstein coil overs - I just think I need to get some more seat time this year and assess the car better; I've only driven it 2000kms since I got it...

I'd bet money, what you experienced and related had more to do with road quality, than it did tires. any "vibration" you "feel" in the steering column isn't tire related. at least not with any "perceived" difference rt615's vs ps2's. assuming good tires and alignment? "vibration" is either worn parts or "road quality".
Further investigation between the PS2s and the PS3s (M5) driven back to back shows a very clear evolution of the PS design - the M5 weighs approx. 1100 pounds more and is only driven in the rear. Despite that, I feel the PS3s would hook up much better, even with all the weight over the rear axle with the 996... and when you compare both the PS2s and 3s against the PS4s (991.2 Turbo S), there is nothing I want more than a PS4 in 235/315/18s for the 996...
