I do not think you overpaid. Car sounds sweet.

I am a newbie to this site, so be gentle. I own several collector cars, including a 68 Shelby gt500, a factory Austin Healey 100m, as well as an 89 Porsche Speedster. I tell you this just to reference that I do have a little experience buying special "keeper" cars. Here is a short saga of my search for a 2005 Porsche 996 turbo s convertible. I started my search back in early 2015. I did not want a silver or black car. I wanted a low mileage, stock , convertible ( I live in northeast Ohio), one owner car, with a manual transmission, that I could keep for a long time and enjoy. It was a difficult search. It took me until August of 2016 ( a year and a half search), to finally find the right car. Any nice version of my expectation was gobbled up in record time. Several cars found their way back to Europe. I got close a few times but the nice cars disappeared fast. Traveling to see cars, inspections, and the man hours associated with the search is very time consuming. To make a long story short I found a nice seal gray car with a boxster red interior with 8600 miles. It was a beauty. I had it inspected by a local dealership and bought the car. I overpaid for the car. My time is too valuable and the number of years I have left to enjoy this beauty were not getting longer. I paid $74,000 for the car. The money is nice but the car is nicer. I enjoy every minute I am behind the wheel. Every man has to follow his dream.
Maybe you overpaid, maybe you didn't. You'll know when you go to sell it in 10+ years. Overpayment has to take into account what you get when you sell; not just what you pay going in. Your color combination seems pretty rare and with the low mileage you'll be ok.
I personally look at purchases as a zero sum game; I don't have to come out a winner on each and every financial transaction; just the majority of them. And if I'm going to overpay, I'd rather it be on a 996 TT than a roof repair. At least I can drive the TT.

Definitely a VERY strong price for a far less than pristine car... I don't mean to be overly negative, but at $55K, I don't expect cracked carbon fiber, a filthy engine compartment, a tired looking interior, and a lack of any really stand-out options (aerokit, X50, pccb, etc).
Prices are REALLY strong right now, even compared to just a month ago. It will be interesting to see if they keep climbing or settle back now that Fall is almost here.

Took a look today at the Hagerty valuation tool for a 996 Turbo w/ X50...September 2017 shows values are on the rise.
