Mentioning the MSRP is the biggest cope I've seen a dealer use.
hey look it cost 6 figures in 2004 or whatever
We're only asking 45k.
Ya but it's ruined.

BTW this thing sold at the auction for $35k. They're probably into it another $1500 for transport. Auction announcements were "grey market, altered suspension, color change, missing catalytic converters, aftermarket accessories, modifications"

“Hey, this Corolla MSRP’d for $25k, we’re selling it used with 30k mi for $25k”
could be seen as more transparent than:
”Here’s this 30k mi Corolla for $25k, who cares what someone paid for it when it rolled off the factory floor, it’s your only option unless you want to wait a year!”
but agreed, kinda silly to post MSRP, especially in the manner they do, on a car that’s ~20yrs old. It’s meaningless (even though some of us are guilty of doing the same when listing their “highly spec’d”, “hard to find optioned” p-cars on the used market hahah

I think it makes sense with certain cars. A $150k MSRP 996 Turbo is likely going to be worth more than a bare spec $120k MSRP 996 Turbo if mileage and condition are comparable.

Will you exppound on this? Porsche charges a FORTUNE for very simple upgrades when you buy new. Folks who can afford new don't mind paying the inflated price for simple changes, but I searched for over a year before buying my car and in my experience, most optional upgrades did not translate to a higher resale value twenty years later. What are the optiions that really do make a difference?

2 out of 4 of the current 996TTs on bringatrailer have damage or accidents reported on the Carfax

What does "grey market" mean here? I am interested in the car unfortunately the dealership doesn't have a DME report and they don't want to bring it anywhere.
