There's a lot to see in that picture.

Of several thoughts that crossed my mind, the first one was of what the dogs and cat were thinking...."Dad let the small human loose! (said in an "uh oh" way.)

Haha. Its truly unusual how each of these animals tolerates her to the extreme.... even the damned cat.

Anyways heres another pic to put this thread back on topic.

I wrapped up the paint correction process earlier today. I ended up stretching it over 3 days. Probably spent a total of 16-18 hours on it. While the results are impressive and I'm really glad I did it, I am not looking forward to holding a DA polisher anytime soon. The car was essentially a giant swirl mark and the process smoother everything out to a nice glossy finish. I did a 2 stage correction - compound and polish. I finished it off with 2 coats of ceramic coating. Letting it cure tonight then going to drive it tomorrow. Here are some before/after pics. The wheels got a fresh polish and coating last summer so I didn't touch them.

That is remarkable - what ceramic coating did you use?

I used blackfire pro. I considered all of the popular DIY finishes, but this one hooked me on ease of application/removal(buffing). It's pretty simple - just put some on an applicator pad, spread it around, let it flash for 15-30 seconds, then lightly buff out to prevent any thick spots. Takes about 75 minutes to do the whole car.

Now that most of the paint is in such good condition, it really makes me hate the tiny rock chips on the hood and leading edge of the roof, plus scattered on the front bumper/doors. Doing this process really makes you find and examine every little imperfection in the paint. And my car still has a lot of little imperfections. It now just looks really really shiny from 5 feet away.

That looks really good - I hear you on the rock chips, I have a couple.

I just did the 991 with a clay bar and the new Meguire's Ceramic, I was very happy with the finish, as smooth as glass, took me about 12 hours to complete.

If you would like to get rid of those and have a bit of time/patience I saw a video from the AMMO guys on how to fix a lot of this. I did it on a two of my other cars and you can't really notice unless you are very, very close. Of course the larger the chip the less this works. I got the base/clear mix from Dr Colorchip, a pipette from wife's work, and a fine line painting pen from Amazon.

The pipette gets the paint into the pen and the pen puts just a little bit of paint on at a time. It is so small that the paint only gets sucked out when it touches a surface. You just tap it on the inside of the chip and build up the paint. If it is a larger chip you can use a hole punch to make a small disc of sandpaper and glue it to a pencil eraser, then lightly sand down the edges of the chip. That will help it blend in a bit more.
