they're about 3200lbs, 465rwhp/440rwtq or so stock, many are at 500rwhp/460rwtq with cam & software change, + exhaust mods.

Just curious, as this will be my goal once I get my car: to have a 996TT that won't loose to the average "tuned" Z06, but with 2-300 more pounds & AWD to battle, I know the AWHP will have to be a bit higher, maybe 540AWHP?

Am I close?

Funny how the new Vette is the car reach for. Gearing is the TT's biggest weakness against the Z06.

The C6 Z06 can get to 59 before shifting into second gear. Hard to beat that unless the driver looses traction on the start. I agree, the 996 TT is geared too low in first gear for this match up.

If the vette were manufactured by Ferrari or so, I wouldn't care. Anyone with a 430 credit score can qualify for GM financing....that makes matters worth complaining about.

Not sure what kind of people drive Zo6's elsewhere..but a lot of gold nugget rings on vet drivers here in Texas.

I guess I could care less about what the vette can and can not do. It will always be a vette and it will never be a Porsche.

I agree, but those guys are my favorite to embarass. I wont have problems in my turbo 928, but would in a mild 996T. Just asking anyway.

First, don't try standing start launches, unless you have a 997tt tip. You will win the jump to 30 mph, about 10 times, then go home to fix your car while he practices burn outs for the next week.
Next, don't start competing til you are in the middle of second gear, since the 1-2 shift is an invitation to a disaster mistake he won't have to make.
Third, lower your suspension, since our cars come ready for snow plowing, and eventually, a curve will arrive.
If you really want to beat a ZO6 at the track, invest in track rims and Pilot Sport Cups, and look for a ZO6 on stock rubber. That will make you feel better.
If you want to feel best, take your wife to dinner at a really nice restaurant. The ZO6 will likely always be a better track car. At 3500 lbs., our cars are Grand Touring sports cars with track capabilities. You kind of need to use it for what the engineers designed it for. AS

My friend has now had his 2006 Z06 for several months and is becoming more proficient at launching the car with minimal tire spin. We went for a ride last night and the car is scary fast (from second and into third gear at 102 MPH he chirped the tires with ease).

It does stop very well and feels solid and road worthy, but not refined like a Porsche (in its power delivery, steering, handling and braking).

Let me get this straight; your only goal in buying a Porsche 996TT is to beat a ZO6? You don't mind a Ferrari being faster, or as long as the ZO6 driver has a higher credit score? If your only goal is dragging a ZO6, buy a Mustang and Mod it up to 600HP.

Comparing a 996TT that is now over 6 years to a C6 ZO6 is unfair. If you want to beat a ZO6, get a 997TT tip, from all accounts it should be faster.

If this was your goal,
Spend $10,000 to get your transmission rebuilt which includes changing 1st and 2nd gears and
makes them taller and then do the "equivalent" of a GT700 kit; I.E.;
GT700, RUF 590 Nardo, PSI 600, Protomotive (just explain to Todd your goals and
he will decimate them!)

My goal is not to drag. Most all my "encounters" are at speed. I've spoken to Todd & plan to use him, maybe should have just asked him.

Then I think 1999 is correct. If you really want to do this, regearing to make first longer and everything else shorter will be important. Your mods will go a long way, but not to the 'sure thing" level.
Silly question: Do you seek or arrange these encounters or do they just happen? AS

It depends on what you mean by an "average" tuned C6Z.

The problem is once you start going mod versus mod it's just a matter of how much money you want to spend.

Against a stock C6Z I think you could expect to be faster with GIAC Stage 4 996 Turbo.
