What HP "level" needed to surpass C6 Z06 on straightline?

I think the 996TT is a little under rated here. I had a couple of go's last week with an 06 Z06 and my 02 TT. My car is all stock other than an ECU upgrade. I do have 19" tires/wheels and JIC suspension. In 2nd gear from around 30 mph on up into triple digits.....the Z06 couldnt do anything but stay in my rear corner. From a dead start was a different story although he launched hard (some tire spin) while I purposely took off a with only a slight amount of aggression and then laid into it. His 1st gear was where he put about 2 car lengths on me. But that was it. He couldnt open up the gap anymore. I wasnt disappointed with my TT at all. Especially with just a Stage 1 ECU upgrade. I think it faired well and I know that with further mods it'll only be faster.

I had similar experience with a ZO6 on race tires with a good driver. when we exited turn 16 at Sebring into a very long (150mph) straight I would be on his bumper and still be there by the end of the straight. the ZO6 is an awesome car and I was glad to "hang" with him. He was also a very nice guy and I had also driven with him at Road Atlanta. Overall lap times he was certainly faster than me! The car is faster but at high speeds its not like it will blow your doors off, IMHO.

Was this a Black/Black C6 ZO6 driven by a Ed Lewis?

I think several people are saying the same thing. As long as you avoid a standing start, and are somewhere in the sweet spot of second gear, you can hang in there. If a corner comes up, it would be best to have the car buckled down. Aside from acceleration, we contend with several hundred extra pounds to slow down for corners, and then have to get those pounds around the corner, so more ground is lost.
It would be tough to get a tt down to the weight of a ZO6, but lighter seats, hood, and battery are a step in the right direction. The spare tire is an obvious delete item (and the ZO6 doesn't carry one) but some have insisted that the spare is an integral part of crash safety. Personally, if I knew I was going to compete, I'd leave it out. I'm more concerned about no spare when I'm 100 miles from home. The Lotus Elise makes do with a can of Fix-A-Flat, and I can't see much more crash protection in that chassis.
With the C6ZO6 weight advantage, you need about 550 hp at the crank to keep up after you get launched, but that won't solve the rest of the problem. AS

AS,
is spot on, I have run a couple of side by side races (not Z06) and in first gear roll
I lost ground becuase it is impossible to not hit rev limiter (because 1st is so short),
but in second or even third with just ECU and exhuast, my little K-16's can kick some
serious "booty". But weight is your enemy...

I personally don't mind having a short 1st gear. The number of times it will prove an issue with me "racing" another car is VERY small. On the other hand, the short 1st gear generates LOTS of longitudinal g (more than any other gear), and it's the high g that's really fun for me.

Though I personally would prefer a first gear that would get me across an intersection wthout shifting. Due to the notchiness of that shift, I tend to be deliberate with it, and therefore can be passed in ordinary city driving by very mundane cars.
In first, I'm not sure the tach keeps up with the engine, so do you really know the rpm of your shift? Isn't the point to shift just before the rev-limiter intervenes? The tt doesn't need the last few hundred rpm for max acceleration, but I think we are down to weighing micro-seconds. The extra shift probably costs .5 econds or more. AS

Dock,
In answer to your question and if one was hypathetically running side by side
with another car in first gear at, say 3000 RPMS how long before you have to shift??
Especially if you throw in any "excitement and red mist"...
I eventually (if I can do it without a resulting divorce) will re-gear my car,
I also hate leaving traffic lights slowly as a result of the short gear.

First gear needs 10 more MPH’s. Both the transmission and differential gearing help determine this along with all of the other stuff.
