This is vey important. Even if you sold your car already please file a report ASAP. We need to get a truer # of incidents than the sample now filed. Even if the dealer repaired under Warrenty still file, That Means you Deputy Dog and others, we know you are out there.

A mechanic at my dealer's shop says he worked on a 911 Turbo that had the fitting fail on the street. He said the car was driven pretty hard but not on the track.

Not me personally. For what it's worth, I met a guy at the alignment shop with a 997.1 that had a fitting die at a stop. The tire spun a little as he pulled away from the light, he got the coolant smell, and then the gauge went nuts.

He thought it was a hose and had it towed to the dealer, who 'fixed' it.

He was not the hands-on kind of guy that a lot on this forum are, and that kind of experience is not going to make it to the forums or attract Porsche's (or NHTSA's) attention like a failure on the track would.

Oh, and he said that he'd never tracked it... fairly low mileage, too, if I remember.

Finally! I remain dumbfounded that Porsche has let it come to this. Marketing, brand management, liability, customer service; just plain stupid from every angle. All they had to do was offer to inspect and repair.

This and the center-lock issue should be written up as a B-school case study on how to destroy customer loyalty.

Unfortunately this is nothing new for PCNA and not something the air-cooled era was immune to either. The difference now is, they can no longer hide things because of the internet.

Has anyone got a picture to show where this/these fitting/s is/are on the engine. I looked on the parts breakdown but it is not easily recognized.

There is a total of 8 fittings on the Mezger motor. I believe 4 are on a manifold near the water pump and the others are on top of the engine.

Gents,
Even though my car is an '11 and has only 9.5K miles, I had the engine dropped this off-season and had the coolant tubes welded to the manifold by my dealer at my expense. This is a well-known and potentially lethal failure of nothing other than the engine for cryin' out loud and Porsche should own up to the obviously dodgy decision to try and "glue" the tubes during assembly. I filed a report and IMHO everyone else should as well.

Today I called the NHTSA and discussed the investigation on our coolant line failure. I explained to the rep that I did not have a failure yet BUT that my mechanic had advised me that this issue must be addressed and repaired. His initial response was that I could not file a claim unless there was a failure. I discussed it a little more and explained that it is a known and expensive issue so why did I have to wait for a failure if I was advised by a mechanic that it was going to fail. He then spoke to his supervisor and came back to me. The supervisor's decision was that I should file the claim, which they did on the phone. They are sending me follow up paperwork.
