LOL Yes I will admit, I can feel when my alignment is just not perfect. I email Tony at TCD ( the NorCal Cup guys know whom he is) and I bug him about little details the car is behaving, and he fixes them.

I can feel if my tire pressures are not within 2 psi of my prefer levels.

Hell, I remember I was at a race course tracking a Cayenne, and I was instructing and i told the students that the cayenne just did not feel right, the wheels felt lose. I pulled over went to go check the tq on the wheels, and yes a few where not tq correctly. So yes, you can make fun of me but i have a very sensitive ***.

Just adding some info to the "cheap rotor" thread. Removed my ATE rotors today and put in these Power Slot. Hopefully they last as well as the ATE.

The rotors look good and the slots do not extend to the edge. Heavy (26-27 lbs) but cheap ($210 or so, sometimes less, for a pair).

I think they are made by StopTech, so hopefully the quality is decent!

Oh, the screwdriver is there to show the direction of the internal vanes..

I've got the PowerSlots on the front of my car too, like you I didn't like that the slots on the brake performance rotors went all the way to the edge of the rotor. 12 days on my car with Hawk DTC pads which are notoriously hard on rotors and they still look great. Lost of surface cracks but just small heat cracks nothing that looks like it's going to develop into an issue anytime soon.

^the only negative I've found so far with the Powerslot/Centric/Stoptech discs is the heavy Blanchard-ground machining on the friction surface takes a while to bed/smooth-out....otherwise great

Andy,

How do you like the Hawk pads? Is that cheaper than the usual Pagid, PFC, etc.?

I like them quite a bit. They are harder on rotors than PFC's last about as long as PFC 01's but not nearly as long as the 08's. Initial bite is crazy...had to adjust my braking style a little bit to adjust to them. The big ticket though is that you can get a whole set of DTC-60's front and rear for < $500 which is about what you pay for the front PFC's. For me, the DE guy, I run cheap pads and cheap rotors and cheap tires so that I can spend the rest of my track budget on seat time. I think they are a great fit.

This is what my ATE looks like when I removed them. Opinion on whether it still has plenty of life left or not? I just thought I'd play on the safe side, but also don't want to throw away perfectly good rotors in the future.. not quite sure about the criteria for these non-drilled rotors.

If the cracks extend to the edge of the rotors, if your fingernail catches in a crack, or if they are at/below minimum thickness, then replace them.

From the picture, it looks like they still have some life.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, definitely played on a safer side this time, but am pretty happy with the life I got out of them, so no complaint. It is much easier to justify when they are not too expensive!

You are talking about the air deflector thing (not the lower brake duct), right? That part should not be moving at all, so what's the concern with using zip tie? (Just trying to understand..)
