+1, and the Cayenne front discs have a different securing system, utilize a large screw to retain the disc vs small screws on 911
Fix the brake line retainer.

What's the best way to get the 10mm bolt out? The head sheared off, some of the sheared off thread is sticking out but not enough to grab with pliers and turn. Drill or EZ out bit?

The swept area seemed to line up all the way to the edge after a short drive.

Here's what they look like installed. Pardon the dirty wheels.

did the bolt break while reinstalling or while removing? if installing a set of visegrip's should pull it if you manage to get enough thread to attach to...while removing, let it soak in wd40 or similar for a day or two and try above...then drill and ez-out
Brakes look great...are the rears a dashed/separated slot design?
Cheers,

Sorry to hear the bolt snapped, but I'm honestly a little relieved to learn that I'm not the only one this has happened to.

I definitely believe it needs to be repaired.

For what it's worth, I tried all of the usual measures to get the bolt out, but all of them failed. What I did was drill and tap a new hole next to the old one and install a new bolt. It has held up just fine.

I considered replacing the wheel carrier, and at the time it was relatively inexpensive, but I didn't want to do the work. Looks like they are way more expensive now.

Good luck!
Mike

Cheers,
Broke on the way back in, went in about 3/4 of the way smoothly then kind of binded up and I pressed a little harder on the ratchet and the head snapped off. There's a little thread poking out but not enough to grab with pliers or a vice grip. Might have to drill it and back it out with an EZ out bit. The other side went in almost all the way by hand and I torqued it very lightly.

Rears are a dashed slot design.

I'm pretty sure you'll be able to unwind it pretty easy with an ez-out, avoid drilling too deep
Sounds like a direct clone of OE discs, nice!

Tried an ez out, no dice. Ended up drilling it out and re tapping the hole. It's a M6x1.0 16mm length bolt easily found at Home Depot.

After doing timeserts in all 4 uprights this was a piece of cake.

water & brake dust and gas dispersal. There are reasons for gas slotted.

cfjan, any report on those Brembo Cayenne S rotors?

The drilled Sebros I had got 6700 street miles and 10 track days. Not so great.

I find the slotted rotors to last much longer than drilled. Centric (division of StopTech) makes a 350mm slotted rotor for the 04+ Cayenne that works great on the 996 GT3. I've been using them for the past couple years and have found them to be the most durable of all the rotors I've tried. They make a cryo treated version ($120 ea) and non-cryo ($100 ea). Up until now I've only used the cryo version, but partsgeek.com was out of those, so I just ordered the non-cryo version.

Bumping this old thread, had these rotors on the car since Dec 2015 only did about 15 days since but the rotors still look to be in pretty good shape. Here's something strange though, I measured the thickness with some digital calipers at 34.25mm thick for the fronts. I went ahead and bought a new set on Amazon (still 200 shipped) and the new ones were....also 34.25mm thick. There's on lip on the edge just some micro heat stress cracks on the face (they don't catch a nail).

Curious how many days most people got before replacing these things.

It varies greatly depending on what pads you use and what tracks you are driving on. I would get about a season and a half, using PFC 11 and doing a dozen events a year, including high brake wear tracks like WG and VIR.

I have a set that have less than 10 miles on them, free to anyone in the Chicagoland area to pick up, otherwise they are being tossed in the garbage, car has been gone for a few years now.
