*Another* Fuel Hose Failure
#5
Scott,
I've just done a couple of searches on that detailed step by step write up one of the guys posted on how to replace the hose. Great write up, pictures and description of the process. I'm going to be at the Glen for five days staring the 25th and I want to get this done before I go.
Good thing you had your event before getting to the track.
If you can find it great and have a smooth event!
Thanks,
John

guys, this happen to me, and I can share some insight. don't run your cars low on fuel at the track...It happend twice...now I stay above a 1/4 tank, and I have not had this problem. Something about the fuel cooling the pump and line...and when low...not enough cooling. Just something to ponder....

If it was a true u-shaped hose this wouldn't be an issue. Would be nice if someone can fabricate a u shaped aluminum elbow that would be awesome. Mike

Not sure what you mean; the factory hose is u-shaped?? Using metal IMO would be a bad idea; flexibility is needed in there.

It's worth repeating, the pump hose failure was caused by "excessive fuel pressure" in my 2004 the dealer told PCNA. The failed pressure regulator was replaced with 993 110 199 00, in addition to the updated feed pump 996 620 057 91 (11/07). Check your regulator pressure also during this R/R.

All others are 5+years. I wouldn't say the FPR is the only cause, but a failed FPR can't help matters. This quote was interesting from Bob's post; the dealer highlighted that the hose section was uprated from the factory.
A funny thing happened on the way home in my GT3. It felt like I had run out of gas. The car sputtered to a stop. Flat bed to the dealer. He called me to say that they thought it as the fuel pump. When they went to install a new one they discovered a split hose from the pump. The pump and the hose in question are located inside the fuel tank. What was interesting is that the hose that failed was a made of black rubber. The replacement fuel pump came with a much sturdier reinforced ribbed plastic hose. The mechanic commented "judging by the difference between the hoses, this isn't the first time this has happened."
So, if your car suddenly quits on you, it may be that some early build 2004 GT3's have this faulty hose in them. I will have my wife's car inspected shortly to see if hers has the same defect. I'm very glad this did not happen on the track where a sudden loss of power would have meant an "off".
