Default (SOLVED- Fuel pump hose failure) Trouble holding idle and won't rev?

I had a great 3 days planned at the track but had it cut very short on the second day.

In preparation for a session, the Car started up great and idle well for 3-5 minutes when all of a sudden it wouldn't keep idle and giving a little gas wouldn't help smooth out.

Trying to restart... It just appeared like it was getting worst a lighting up.

Initial reactions... Bad gas... Blown pump fuse... Split hose/vaccum leak... Bad MAF...?

Feels like fuel starvation... But hard to do any diagnostics at the track.

Lost 2 of the 3 track days...
Got charged for my full 3 day booking at the f'ing hotel i was staying at...
300$ flatbed ride to a Porsche dealership in a city i do not even live in.
Taking the train home as i write this.
Looking for the silver lining... Saved 2 days worth of gas and other consumables.

Any 6GT3 forum knowledge on possible cause or known system weaknesses??

David

it's not easy without a fault code, but you have already covered some possible issues.

I have sent a MAF in the States for another member to diagnose his problems.

If it turns out to be it, I will ask him to sent it to you so that you don't pay the dealer Porsche money..

Do you have the newer fuel pump? The original pump with the rubber elbow hose was known to split.

I forgot to mention that there was no check engine thrown.

StephenB... I have the old pump. Didn't even know that there was a revised one. Good info.

The old one is 996 620 057 90..

Then they used for a while the 996 620 057 91 which was completely removed from circulation! and now they are using the
996 620 057 92..

There was a thread last year describing the failure of a rubber hose connecting the fuel pump to the output pipe... might be worth searching for it to see if it matches your symptoms.

I think you've steered me in the right direction.

And now to steer he dealer in the right direction before they initiate their extensive training program at my expense.

Just went to the garage and got myself a 5/16ID piece of fuel line about 10" long. It is not the right type, but it will save a Track weekend. Going in the trailer as a spare...

The real deal is this, submersible hose (SAE30R10) for permanent replacement. Gates Web has a locator feature. Might be worth buying a length... Just in case. Will call around to see who carries it locally.

Looks like NAPA has a comparable product: https://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/C...267481578&An=0

Hope this helps...

Jerry Pellegrino, chief instructor for NER, is also owner of European Performance Engineering in Mass and took some 20 minutes to go over the car. Good guy! His conclusion was probably fuel, but couldn't be diagnosed or repaired properly at the track.

To find my options, I spoke to two chaps from Speedmerchants who were patient enough to listen to the symptoms, but Jim dispensed the last piece of advice, which inevitably led to flatbedding to the closest Pcar dealer.

Not what I wanted to hear that morning, but everyone was considerate and very helpful. I had a one newly introduced Rennlist member even offer me his open trailer if I could find something to pull it with!! (He came in an RV)

Finally.... I think the knowledge in this forum section is pretty amazing and the folks here even more so.

Stay tuned for the outcome of the diagnostics on Monday or Tuesday...

Cheers!
David

Where did you fill up last? If you'd like to PM me the answer that's cool.

Stinson's/Mumford's (same place)
Fuel is good there.
As far as I know... Everyone fills up there with no issues whatsoever.
