Sorry!! Too busy driving and enjoying. The engine is getting better and better as it's breaking in. Have 2300 miles on it so far.
911Slow was right, it feels like a 996TT at low RPM with the displacement bump. The low end torque gain is substantial. I never feel the need to rev past 5-6k. Passing cars in 5th gear is effortless. I think the 4.0's flexibility really bridges the gap between GT3 and TT for street use. The top end has some juice too. I'm glad I decided to leave the stock camshafts in place. I think it's key to maintaining such a flexible powerband.
I'm thinking about making the first track outing on Feb 11th, so I'll have some more feedback on track performance.
Anyways, I have some friends in town this weekend and we'll be working on an e30 S52 swap project...maybe now I'll have some helping hands to shoot video/sound clips.

lol - no problem! I can well imagine that 1. the sooner its run in the happier you'll be
2. all this recording and editing and transferring and saving and uploading is a mission
3. feb 11 is around the corner - much to be prep'd and checked!
4. seismic warning beacons might be disturbed by 4.0 within city limits
but then again, what are friends for but to hold the boom, camera and maybe brief interview

Hi Serge.
How did you hold down the LSD when loosening the bolts on the ring gear? They are mighty thight, and the LSD spins quite freely since it's basically an open diff:-).

I used an impact to loosen the ring gear bolts.
When tightening the ring gear back on, the setup pictures above couldn't quite make it to full torque before the clutches started slipping. I ended up inserting the second output flange and applying counter torque with a long screwdriver (similar to how it's held in with the vice).
It also helps to torque with the wrench crossing the center of the differential. That way you put a smaller moment down the center.

Amazing thread by the way, and what an engine you've got! :-)

Well, this marks this thread's 1-year anniversary!
The car is in the hands of another rennlister, although he doesn't post too often. Car has since been tuned at 911 Design and is running very strong. New owner has some goodies under his sleeve and will eventually provide an update.
This is the first time I've ever had seller's remorse.
