Default Please Let Me Introduce...

... My "new" 2005 996 GT3.

It's a bit overdue, but it's been complicated. Car was 500 km away so there was weather, work, e-tests, etc. to contend with.

Purchased over a month ago, sight unseen based on previous owner's comments, the reputation of the shop that did the original "setup", the low 22,000 km, and the fact that I was buying from a P dealership. This also allowed me to trade in my C2S, which was my main currency.

Started doing DEs this year and soon realized that my C2S would need a bit of massaging going forward. But even if I spent some good $$ to upgrade suspension, install LSD, etc, I still would not have the sweet Mezger, so the only solution... well, you know.

But first, so long my love, you've been good to me...

The warm days of summer, and the journey between snow days.

Default First Thing I did at the Dealership...

... was to get the car up on jacks to see what I had bought.

Not 100% what's what, but will be going to the original builder to find out.

Boom!!
Good show Francois! It's a great car that has passed me on several occasions at tremblant!
How loud is that exhaust? What is it?
Congrats again.

Default Went for a Drive Before Work...

... the next morning.

Got home at 10 and was going to go for a short drive, but by the time I unloaded the trailer in the POURING f'ing rain I was soaking wet and all I could think about was to grab a cold one and go see what was new on RL

Had only driven the car around the block at the dealership. Just enough to think "What The Heck did I just get myself into". Lots of hissing, clunking, and all sorts of other noises I had never heard before, nor was expecting. I knew that the LWFW would be noisy but wasn't sure how much.

I wasn't really bothered by the harshness, but was mostly worried about the clunking. I had an idea of what it might be but wasn't sure. It sounded like loose bushings. The salesman said it was all the rigid bushings and mountings but that didn't make sense so I spoke to the tech who had inspected the car and had done the road test.

"It's the floating rotors" he said. That made perfect sense and is what I had thought. Phew, that was a relief.

As for the lwfw and rs clutch, well it sounds just like any dry-clutch motorcycle so that's cool.

The brake squeal is also kind of cool... for now, lol.

Should have started by listing the options:

C36 – Canadian Car
XSC – Porsche Crest in Headrest
X47 – Carbon Handbrake
X58 – Carbon Shifter
X69 – Door sills in carbon embossed with model insignia
288 – Headlight washer
571 – Fog tail lamp
573 – Air conditioner
601 – Litronic Headlights

So in this pic, you can see almost half of all my options (the carbon bits):

Thanks Chris, more to come. No idea about the exhaust But honestly, you can hardly hear it over all the other "noises" LOL.

Default So on with the Drive

Within a few minutes of driving this "thing", two words came to mind... Bucking Bronco. Might be because of the heavenly noises though.

That engine really IS sweet. The rev band goes on forever and the gearbox probably has two gears too many. Nothing a R & P swap can't "fix". I was able to take the car to work for a couple of days before the snow hit and I was mainly in 3rd and 4th all the way there.

It's very interesting how this car reacts with the LSD. In the C2S, hitting the gas in a corner to induce a skid would cause the PSM to kick in in a somewhat "brutal" fashion. You know, cut the throttle, hit the brakes, not pleasant.

With this car, the same provocation cause a slight skid but then, you can really feel the car hook up and go. This'll be fun

Of all the sounds mentioned to date, I think that the sweetest one is the ping that it makes when you tap the roof from the outside.

Anyway, from the drive:

A few random shots.

- Cup shifter according to the P/N
- The artist
- Dog bones look pretty stock to me
- Toe link

And finally, the cause of all the clunking.

Thanks and yes, but I was scared

Talking mostly about normal driving here, you know, with just a small blip here and there.

Very nice.

The fastest I've ever been around Le Circuit Mt. Tremblant was in that car.

Be careful with it. It behaves a bit differently than your C2S. Take some time to learn what it's telling you.

Enjoy.
