I have the car in the shop right now getting some items installed, Euro GT3 seats, roll bar, 5-point safety harness, track alignment and track wheels with some R888 R-compounds to start with. I plan on using the PS2 tires on the stock wheels as rain tires for now, Future mods will be ECU upgrade and some exhaust mods and rear toe links from the suggestions in this thread.

I broke mine down to $275 every 30 min for a typical 8 session 2-day event and that does NOT include anything other than weekend expenses (gas, pads, rotors, tires, entrance fee, hotel). Race shop expense and upgrades, etc, are extra.

I bought my Gt3 new exactly 5 years ago today!
For the first 3 years it was my street car and only rarely did track duty, since I had an '84 911 all tricked out, which I then sold.
So I have 2 years of track use -- 25 days of DEs. (And it is also my DD, with 40K miles on it.)
I have not needed a new LSD yet, nor have any other pieces broken. It sure does go through pads and tires quickly, as noted by other posters. It also uses up the drilled rotors often -- I got only 7 days out of a set of fronts earlier this year. I am now using aftermarket slotted, not Porsche drilled rotors in the front, and they seem to be lasting longer.
As for mods, I have seats, bar, belts and the 'Dan Jacobs' suspension (including rear toe-links). [He's a guru in Connecticut.]
I agree completely with the comment about shifting slowly and carefully.
I love the GT3, and it has been very reliable.

We're almost down to what it costs per minute of track time and I have to say I really don't want to know. It's a nice hobby and the car is fantastic but realistically if I sat down and figured out what it costs it probably wouldn't be as much fun. Worse if the war department found out what it really costs there would be a real problem. So as much as I admire the diligent accounting PLEASE stop putting it into print!

A good GT3 is cheaper than a lot of things: mistresses, most boats, almost any Italian car and will depreciate way slower than any vehicle from the big three. I say that economically you've made a sound decision and you can assure your wife that the entire Rennlist GT3 forum agrees with you.

I'm very excited with my new purchase- It may be slower than my old 930 but I'm sure more satisfying in the long term. It's got heat & air conditioning also! New graphics soon!

Faster overall actually- just not on straights at Pocono! It's up to the driver- I can't wait- first event March 28th. Stock pads & rotors until I go to Pagid's and new Deman Rotors!
