If you do a lot of track time, you'll end up wanting a cup car sooner or later. There are a lot of nice ones for sale right now. I drive an 04 GT3 and love it, but it just isn't a cup car no matter what work I do to it. One thing you'll have to do to a GT3 is either get new shocks or re-valve your stock Bilsteins. Stock, that rear end just wants to fly around! Not fun when you want to push it. I just had mine revalved and they are great. You can slide the car without fear of a surprise spin. You'll also need to change the camber to suit the tires you pick... full slicks or Hoosiers, or Michelin Sport Cups (not recommended). Hoosiers are a great compromise for durability and traction. One other post was right... you'll want a set of extra wheels for Yokohama Neova's for street or rain track use. Otherwise the car is super durable. Fuel and tires is all you'll need with an occasional tighetening of key areas. The car is way too cool on the track. Depending on your speeds and style, you'll do even better with rotors and pads than your older Porsche because they are so big and so good. Good luck!

Just a matter of time for me.

HA! I got 3 days out of the stock front rotors!

You're kidding right?

+1 I could run at 9/10 all day without drama. 9.5/10 is an exercise in countersteering.

Matter of time is right. Never said I used stock rotors... Calipers are great. Need pads and rotors... still better than older 4 piston calipers. NO? And if you think the stock suspension settings are okay... you are definately driving too slow. This car is wicked stock, just not predictable. Glued to the track now. And if credibility is what you are looking for... I'm in the instructor training program as we speak. Still a pretty low maintenance track car in comparison to others, (was my point). You didn't rile me up though!

If the gt3 weighed between 2500-2600 with all fluids and full tank - 4 piston would work but 6 piston is fine with me too : ). Rotors/pads would last much longer. Mike

Guess not. I re read my post and I never asked or challenged your credibility
But as we've seen on this forum recently, things are often taken the wrong way then intended. Sorry if i ruffled your feathers.
Dude, i think you misunderstood, i hated the stock suspension, I'm off the deep end with all PMNA cup and RSR parts with Moton triples. Car is finally consistent with no more unexplained 360s at speed. Or the alignment after every track day.

The car is the best car out of the box. More car than a lot of people can handle and able to beat trailered in race cars in the right hands. Learn to drive the car first then make the necessary changes to refine what you like and don't like. A lot of mods that people put into the 996 GT3 is unnecessary and overkill IMHO.
