Not bad for a car to beat on?

Obviously until someone gets a good look at the areas that can't be seen, no one can value such a car.

Shortly after purchasing my 996 I was rear ended by a land cruiser going about 3mph. Cracked a tail light, cracked the aero kit wing (2" crack), and spider cracked the bumper. The initial estimate was $2800.
Once they started to do the work, the $2800 turned into $8K because they needed to replace the bumper instead or repairing it, and had to paint all of the way up to the doors to get the paint to match, which meant they had to take out the windows, etc.
The insurance rep told me if they knew it was going to be $8k when they started it would have been a total loss. Which I of course would have bought back in a second, because other than some spider cracks on the bumper and a 2" crack on the aero kit there was no damage that effected how the car performed. The only thing that would have had to have been fixed is the tail light which was $200, and even that was questionable since it was a chip on the bottom left hand portion of the light, not anywhere near the sealed area of the lens.
My point being, if you know what caused the salvage title, it may not be a big deal. I made a point to take a ton of pictures of the damage on my car, in case I ever sell it, I have proof of what occurred if it pops up on a Car Fax.

same here. you need the details. It could have been a 15k hit to the front, and the car is worth 25k, so they write it off instead of fixing it as that makes more sense financially to them. Something similar happened with my RX7...was cheaper to buy anew/used one that it was to fix it so they wrote it off. that car is still on the road today and looking great.

The ad said the radiator was not damaged. Sure looks like coolant laying on the ground.

In Illinois a vehicle gets a salvage title if the repairs are more than 25% of the value of the vehicle. With the cost of repairs that means a lot of cars here get salvage titles.
