If it's the tranny, time for some shorter gears?

checked the cables they look good. undid everything and reinstalled, same thing. rebleed the whole system, same thing.

when the car is off, not running, I can move the car and forward like it's in neutral. I start the car and as soon as I release the clutch it lunges forward like it's in a high gear. pushed the clutch in and try taking off from 1st and you just smell burnt clutch.

Wow, that is frustrating. Did you also remove the center console, disconnect the cables ( those spring loaded connectors) from the shifter and put the shifter in neutral with a shifter centering tool? Then put the transmission shift levers in neutral and reconnect the cables inside the car.

I wonder if the cables are somehow routed differently so some adjustment is needed.

You probably installed the clutch disc backward... They can be confusing.

Doesn't explain exactly what happened in the beginning, but thats certainly what it sounds like now. With the disc in backward it'll have these exact same symptoms.

The pain from that mistake 15 years ago still lives with me today!

This is the correct side facing the front in case you need a photo.

never heard of that. it's a single disc clutch, installed similar clutches on other cars, never heard of a right side for a OEM clutch. the porsche manual also never made mention of that.

guess she's coming out. ..gotta love love learning. lol

I started looking at this last night but I never touched the cable from the inside. never used a centering tool. all I did was popped off the cable at the transmission, unplugged a sensor and removed the shifter ****...

Yep, the disc is side specific. The hub isn't the same on both sides, one side is more offset and will contact the ID of the release assembly more than the other. You can pull the tranny to check it, and leave the engine in the car.

No other problem makes sense that I can think of, other than this.

The factory manual is a joke.

You guys think my transmission is fubard? These things are pretty tough I read.

I am going to try and find a hoist to work form and get the car towed from there. I've been in the garage on my back for the last 7 nights....my neck is killing me.

The tranny is a tank. You didn't do anything to grenade it, either. Thats why I am guessing clutch related issues.

I'd take a few days off from it, you'll make a mistake much easier if you push too hard.

Yeah, you're right Jake, My wife needs her husband and the kids need their dad back. I've been obsessive about this.

I learned a long time ago to step away along the way. I'll typically kill myself when assembling an engine, but I stop 3 times along the way and do something else. Last week I was kicking *** on the 996TT I am building now, but I then found myself needing break, so I jumped on the tractor, and cut the grass... All day long.

I'll get back on it this week and get to my next goal, ring gaps, piston install, and water jacket install. If I'm lucky I'll get the cylinders fitted, too.... But then I'll break away from it, and do something else.

When I'm finished, I take 3-4 days off to think about things, before installing the engine. Its easy to wear yourself thin.

AWD, my photo shows what Jake explained. If you look closely, the "spokes" of the disc are not flat, they are curved. I took that pic to remind myself.

But why it didn't give you problem immediately upon driving? I can't explain why your shifter cable has shifted either. What a head scratcher.
