It will be interesting to see if there are any bits missing from either the IMS paddle or chain guides as well.

That's a nice 996, I looked at it a couple days before you bought it. Too much metal in the filter for my plan. Good luck with the project!

the 5 big ferrous pieces look a bit like gear teeth. Doesn't the 3.6 use Hyvo chain between the IMS and crank? (image from Ford)

Possible. They look like they had been ground multiple rounds for a while before they landed on the oil pan. I wonder if it's something broken inside the scavenger pumps.

Not yet and it all depends on what are damaged e.g., if the crank is damaged, rebuild will be out of the question.

Jake never posted the photos from my motor's autopsy, but apparently even the crank was destroyed. Would have liked to have seen the pix.
