Check the individual engine parts. The pricing is absurd.

Con rod $1,800 a piece and you need 6
Cams $1k each and you need 4
Crankshaft $5k
Crank carrier $3k
Crankcase $3~7k
Head $3.5k each

I think they are trying to take advantage of the factory of not having anymore engines and what they have left, they can charge a premium, I mean an arm and a leg for.

Oh, slower than I would like, but kind of like the last time, which was over 10 years ago. A rule of thumb is it can take 1 month per $10K of annual salary to find a job. Say one makes $150K a year based on this rule then one could be facing 15 months of looking for a job. Last time it took me 9 months and this time I've only been looking for 4 months.

Had an interview with a local company Dec. 15, just before I left town to take care of some very important family business. The interview went well, but I have not heard back. I contacted a few people that participated in the interview asking for any word and all I got back was what with the holidays and flu engineering positions weren't getting filled as quickly. This is true, but the holiday season is over with and the flu should have run its course by now.

However, this company depends upon the oil patch for some of its business and I suspect the big drop in the price of oil has this company (and many others like it) rethinking the need to add more employees and in fact probably thinking about cutting back on the number of employees the company already has. Not only has hiring come to a standstill, with the employees there I expect there is no little apprehension about their own future with the company.

Another company, a recruiter actually, approached me -- by email -- a while back about joining a start up on the peninsula. We exchanged emails regarding salary vs. stock options and I let him know I was flexible but haven't heard anything back yet.

(Oh, while my Mom and Dad were still alive I had some interest from a company in Chatsworth, CA, another someplace back in N. Carolina, and yet another company in Washington state but of course had to politely decline since relocation wasn't possible. Now that Mom and Dad are gone I am opening up communication with those companies again since relocation is back on the table.)

There is always retirement if nothing I want turns up. While I'm not that old and would prefer to resume working, I can afford to retire if I want to. But I'd like to rejoin the ranks of the employed if I can. What can I say? I like to work.

On a brighter note late last week I got a request from a company in Olathe KS to submit a resume which I did yesterday. I'll follow up later this week with this company.

Anyhow, life goes on. My cars are cleaner now than they have been in a while. And I got a shotgun, 12 gage pump, waiting for me at a local gun shop as soon as the 10 days is up. (It was Dad's. I sent it to my sister, but it proved to be too big for her so she transferred it to me via a local gun shop.) Will buy a hand gun for target shooting soon, to have something to do. Might look into doing my own ammo loading, too. Nothing like storing cans of gun powder around the place to add some excitement to life.

Default Macster - Retiring?

As one who has been there and done that, (I initially "retired" at 55 moved to South Florida and lasted exactly 1 month before deciding I had made a big mistake).

So now 15 years later, I've started my 8th start up.

Don't "fold the tent" simply because you can, do it because you really want to.

Hey, the Kansas City Automotive Museum is at 116th & Strang Line in Olathe. We can always use another member of the board of directors that drives a 996 as do 3 of the 9 directors already. Let me know if you come out for an interview and have time for a beer. And, if there is anybody locally you'd like me to reach out to and I know them, I will be happy to do so.

You'd think with prices like that, a 996 with a fully functioning engine would be worth a little more than current prices reflect...

Macster, glad to hear that at least you aren't strapped for cash and eating cat food while job hunting.

Today I went over to a local shop to get the AC recharged. As I was driving home, I was stopped at a light and heard someone shout "Hey Cuda, is that the new motor? Been following your thread."

Turns out, it was member Lingpoen in his nice shiny C4S.

Great, now I don't have to just be paranoid of the IMSB.

You'll find some dried cat food in the cabinet next to the fridge, for your snacking pleasure.

If you find any kale chips, please take those, too. That was a bad experiment in healthy snacking.

Yeah, was lookin' around for RL stalkers!

Now I know exactly how Justin Bieber feels. Today I'm going out shopping for a hat and large sunglasses so that I can once again go out safely in public, whilst sneaking past my adoring fans.
