No one has facts to back it up, but if you hang out around here long enough you'll start to notice a definite correlation between garage queens vs cars that actually get driven and the amount of unscheduled maintenance they require. I'm just one point of reference, but both of my 996s had 90k+ miles on them when I bought them and they were daily driven. Both were relatively trouble-free requiring little more than your usual oil/filter changes.

if that is just your experience that’s fine — I was just wondering.
An expert has warned, some low mile cars sit for years without oil changes, thus the oil becomes acidic and starts to eat away at various parts like bearings...Service history showing at least an oil change annually would make me feel safer if looking at one with low miles.

I think that is probably a fair statement. I also think this probably applies to most cars -- not just 996s. I guess I ask because I have spent a fair bit of time in internet forums and they can sometimes act like echo chambers. Opinions get repeated a lot and then the become fact. And obviously just because 90K cars are solid doesn't mean 50K cars aren't. But I appreciate your perspective and certainly you are entitled to your opinion. (I don't really have an opinion on this -- I was just wondering.)

My memory may be faulty, but I think it was Jake from Flat Six that has said this? He's a well regarded person who has a ton more experience with these engines than most people, so has a lot of data points to work from. He's probably seen more 996 engine failures than most forum members combined. I tend to trust the things he says.

That might be true but the difference between a 996 and "most cars" is the cost of repair. If it happens to a honda, you can pick up an engine for like $600. You're looking at 20 times that for a 996 engine.

One more point of reference. I bought my MY2000 C2 Tip Cab with ten years and 37,000 miles on the clock. I've done tons of preventative maintenance but only one repair - the driver's door latch needed replacing. I knew the previous (original) owner, who was meticulous about maintaining the car. He told me that the techs at the Porsche dealer would laugh when he would bring it in for an oil change after only two or three thousand miles. To me, maintenance is more important that mileage.

There are a couple companies that make 997 front end conversion kits. Looks like that is the fiberglass version and the fitment is pretty 'meh' at best.

There is a place by me that sells luxury/performance cars used and when I was looking they had a few with these front end conversions and they just did not look right. Fit just did not look good enough to pass for OEM.

The ad says that the owner spend $15,000 to make it look like a 991. In my mind that is a step backwards...
