Yep, when you're talking about a small part that you can fit in the palm of your hand that has the ability to kill a $20,000 engine, that's definitely downhill.

Not sure why some prefer 3.4 but the 3.6 has a stronger pull and feels faster. It also has some better features and upgrades over the 3.4.

Not a bad deal considering the low miles, overall condition, and the clean carfax, but the next owner must understand this is not a factory aero kit, but all aftermarket add-on with the exception of the side skirts. Unfortunately, the dealer is claiming this is the OEM factory aero kit option - XAA, but it's NOT. I've seen this over and over. The hood option tag would prove my point. The next owner also needs to consider replacing the IMS if no documentation exists. The 2001 are some of the first single row IMS cars and with a 17 year old low mileage car, I'm sure it has much degradation to the bearings.

The ad also said V6, I don't think the seller is an enthusiast or at least whoever wrote it. If only it had the 3.6 I would have went to test drive it today.

Wow... this is a Frankenstein of a car. Seller dumped $15,000 in the engine and probably another $5,000+ for the aero kit and repaint ... all for a car that's not worth more than $15,000 with that amount of miles. Maybe someone will appreciate the power upgrades.

Beware! Seller obviously doesn't know much about it and is regurgitating what his price-gouging shop/mechanic told him.

All season kumhos on the front, summer sumitomos on the rear. For that poverty-understeer security blanket you sorely need!
" Even a newer turbo 911 will have trouble with this setup " haha okay, if that's how your shop justified all those thousands of dollars on parts!
I wouldn't give him $15k for that, and I"d expect every single thing to need gone through. What a shame.

Why? Natural skepticism or some specific reason?

Personal experience with cars that "have every part in the catalog" stuck on them. Tons of work being done and it doesn't even have matching (cheapest you can buy) tires? Huge red-flag.

There are key flaws in the listing- such as the mis-spelling of easily identifiable common parts, mis-identification of the type of tires, and egotistical statements. Best-case scenario, someone at some point in the car's life knew what they were doing, and the cost-cutting and cluelessness are only recent.

Not exactly the right car for this thread, but I've come to trust the opinions on the "996 forum" I'm looking for a replacement for my favorite '99 cabrio (totaled due to a blown motor) and came across this: https://orangecounty.craigslist.org/...388995833.html

I'm flying out Wed to take a look at it. Would you help me evaluate it?

Edit: It turns out that this was a scam. The guy snagged my deposit. Then, still had me fly to LA just to mess with me. There I was wandering around San Juan Capistrano with a boatload of cash... show up to the address listed on the title (I had seller e-mail me a copy)... no car for sale. A clean Carfax is great for a car... but doesn't guarantee that the owner is legit. Lucky I didn't get hit over the head and robbed... Lucky this wasn't the Craigslist killer.

Looks and sounds like a good one, depending on service history...Get a PPI by someone that knows these cars inside and out.
