in my E36 M3. For $140, it sounds good and the wireless carplay works great so far. The shiny finish is a little cheesy by it gets the job done. If I didn't have a PCCM already, I would have saved $1,200 and just installed one of these in my 996 as well.

Good looking out mate!
I have a single DIN PCCM in my 996 and I recently installed this:

I recently upgraded from a double-din CarPlay unit to a single-din BT unit (you read that correctly), and couldn't be happier.

Excuse the pollen, it's the season here in NC and I had my top down all day!
I've essentially completed the install of the Aliexpress/Sadocom PCCM+ clone in my 2001 Carrera 4. Overall, I am happy with it.
Note that installation is not for the faint of heart, and I still have a few quirks to work out.
It's not hard to install really, but doing things like taking a dremel to the single DIN frame, and fabricating mounting blocks to hold the unit into the fascia make this more than a plug and play.
I've installed about 6 of these android units so far, so I am pretty familiar with their quirks.

Becker CDR-23 finally gave out. As most of you know Bose MOST is a nightmare and I didn’t feel like gutting the entire system at this time.
Not a fan of the the PCCM+ in the 996. Found a way to make the Porsche Classic Radio work but I just couldn’t justify the price.
Blaupunk Frankfurt, fully integrated with the 12 speaker Bose. Color is almost bang on. Mic and USB hidden from view.
Shoutout to Showtime Audio here in Chicago. Top notch service from first phone call to install.
Next up, GT3 center console delete and phone mount.
Ignore the broken cup holder (Any leads on a used one)?

Yeah, the Blaupunk Frankfurt is where it's at.
I didn't buy this car for it to be the most technologically advanced. Actually, the opposite. While I'm a huge Apple fan and I want CarPlay in my other vehicles...I didn't want it in this one. I'm not so wannabe "old school" that I'll pull out a map when on road trips (however I think that everyone should pack one in case you get lost where there is no signal). I'm not looking at Android apps in the car. I'm not watching videos/films in the car.
Let's be real, most aftermarket head units look terrible. Like they stepped right out of the 90s. Like slammed mini Toyota pickup with neon lights and "YOTA" on the tailgate, 90s.
Things that are important to me:
- BT Audio.
- Volume kn0b.
- Definitely not touch screen. I want to be able to feel for the kn0b then micro adjust it easily, depending on the song or if I'm getting into the song, while keeping my eyes on the road. I often mis-click when using touchscreen systems.
- Great sound.
- Matches the interior aesthetic.
- Definitely not ultra futuristic, which is what 99.999% of single and double din head units look like.
- Clean, clear radio reception.
- Firm clicky buttons. (The Frankfurt's buttons are soooo firm and clicky 😊 )
Do I want CarPlay in my X5M that's relegated to family duty?: YES
Do I want CarPlay in my 911 that's my fun/weekend/solo car: NO

Does the new Blaupunkt unit work with the factory BOSE out of the box? Or did you need some kind of adapter?

Needs an adapter. It's on my invoice as 'IX-Pro 12' but I cannot find it anywhere online. I left this install to a professional shop here in Chicago. Paid a premium but zero headaches and all is working as intended.

Wow, that Blaupunkt Frankfurt I think may be the best looking/matching I've seen for the 996 yet! It looks absolutely perfect. We should have a "beauty contest" thread for the radio options -- maybe separate threads for single and double DIN. Everybody posts radios their radios, and then have a poll to vote on which one wins. My money is on the Frankfurt though.
How is the quality of Bluetooth phone calls, and the overall audio quality, with the Blaupunkt Frankfurt?

tl;dr: The audio quality is great. I also use a small 100W amp to drive the formerly-Bose sub. The head unit drives the other formerly-Bose speakers amazingly. The call quality is great even without using the supplied corded external mic. Even my young kid can converse on the phone from the back seat with no issues.

For those looking for a single-DIN CarPlay radio, this Power Acoustik CP-71 seems to be getting very positive comments on some other car forums despite its very low price (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Power-Aco...New/5055269224). I don't have any direct experience with it, nor have I noticed anyone using it with a 996, but it sounds like a pretty good option for those wanting single DIN CarPlay (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Power-Aco...New/5055269224).

Coupe rear speakers
99-01 with M490 sound has the rear speaker wires, wired 180* OUT of phase from the factory for some reason. Installed replacement speakers will also be 180* out of phase as well, unless they are re-phased with a cross pinned adapter or install speaker wires backwards
