I am the newbie who posted this question in the first place. And it is confusing. (Especially since I am a first time Porsche owner) To all of you guys with replies of absolutely no value or just plain smart *** remarks, you could be using your time and typing skills to doing something more productive, so thank you very little. (but the hot chicks are great)
Everyone else, thank you for all of your input, and I definitely have narrowed it down to about 6 choices, Mobil 1 not being one of them. (thanks Jake)

I have been using Royal Purple oils. Last year I ran 10w40 for 7500 miles and then sent in a sample to Blackstone lab. My report came back suggesting I could of ran the oil an additional 2500 miles. This winter I have changed to 0w40. Last year I ran in multiple autocrosses and 1 autocross drivers school. My 996 is showing just over 130,000 miles. I think the engine was replaced at about 60K. I normally drive her like I stole her.

Another Noob oil question
Sorry for adding to the certified "Mass" confusion of this thread but, Nobody has mentioned Shell Rotella-T 5W-40 Full Syn. Is it NOT P-car approved? I want to protect her vitals as best I can. What specifications do I need to make sure it adheres to?
What is A40 approved?
I have used Rotella -T 5W-40 Full Synthetic in My Road Race bikes for years and after racking up more than 10k track miles at double the RPMs our P-cars put out, my engine builder was blown away with the lack of wear my engine showed. He was especially impressed that there was NO RIDGE in the cylinder walls. I have also run it in an Avalanche and now a 1500 Ram with the hemi without any issues.
I am def not an engineer so if any of you engineering types can decipher any information in this entire thread and put it in laymens terms I'm sure a bunch of us average folks would greatly appreciate it
What I have learned from this thread so far? Stay away from Mobil 1...
This is still a GREAT thread IMO

Interested to know more thoughts on the Rotella T6 as well, since that is what I've run in my Audis. The Rotella is engineered specifically for high-temp turbocharged engines (diesel trucks to be exact), so I see no reason it wouldn't be a great choice for these cars as well.

I use Rotella T6 in our Saab turbo...just replaced the VCG last weekend @114k miles and the top of the engine looked like new...interesting on thoughts for the M96 with that oil, especially since it is quite a bit cheaper than the Motul 8100 I use now

OH yah, it's not just the oil but the oil is a very important part. Along with proper oil you must adhere to the importance of proper engine warm up before hammer time or letting the dogs loose however you view it.
