Default What's the best engine oil 996?

According to everyone, everyone has a different opinion on the best engine oil to use.

What about Royal Purple, Redline 5W40, Motul, Amsoil and Mobil 1 ?

Some even recommended the Diesel Mobil 1. Please help me decide.

Oh alright....I currently use Syntec 5-40. M1 gives my car the creamy butter effect in the filler tube. M1 sells the 5-40 as a diesel oil but I've used it regardless.

My local independent uses Fuchs Titan Supersyn 5w 40. Since I trust him to work on the car, I choose to trust his recommendation of oil.

Shell Helix Ultra, best of luck finding some

but worth the looking because nothing should be as easy as just buying what is available right?

Not really. A search will find arguments, rebukes, speculation, misinformation, and very little agreement. I read everything I could when I got my Porsche and came away thinking Castrol Syntec 5w 40 might be acceptable. Is that correct...I don't know, but it was the best I could figure with all of the different answers. My indy recommends Motul 5w 40, but it's very hard to find when I do my own oil changes.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe I read somewhere that Mobil1 0w 40 was no longer recommended by Porsche.

I've also heard that Royal Purple and Redline are good as well, so you seem to be on the right track.
