I think what you need is a little more power to stay on the left lane all the time.

I think the 996 TT would do the trick

This is going to end up like one of those organ transplant - meet the family members episodes you see on the daytime talk shows.

Think about it, larry's car gets totaled and sold to a salavage wholesaler, who sells it to a yard, who gets a call from a Fidelity Warranty service employee looking for a low mileage 02-03-04 996 engine for a customer who had a catastrophic failure.

Then engine gets shipped out to a P-car dealer (or pepboys!) and will be transplanted into the car in need of a new heart.

Wow, is it time to go home yet?

Spoke to the adjuster that works only on "totaled cars." Nice gal. She gave me a number for the car, before they loaded in any options. I am sending her the sticker on the car. I think that I will come out OK on this. It's really not an issue of how much I paid for the car initially compared to what they are settling for. It is how much it is going to cost me to get into a comparable car compared to what they are settling for.

Then I have all of those decisions to make - Cab, Coupe or Targa? Miles vs years? C4 vs C2 vs TT. Interesting mix. Likely I will be looking for a car that is NOT silver or black, though the thought of a 40th anniv car is tempting. I would love to have something in an unusual color, like Lapis Blue, or Speed Yellow. I will be doing some looking, and won't rush to judgment.

When we settle on a number, I will let you guys know. Also on the liability issue. Nothing final in that arena yet.

The saying goes......."Every once in a while a blind hog stumbles upon an acorn."

You have found your acorn! Very glad it turned out well for you.....but not the preferred way to upgrade.

$35-$40???

hell I could turn that into a second job... buy em at $25, total them at $40

actually I have not followed this thread much but know its painful to deal with all the BS associated with an accident and in the end you look to have came out pretty much where you started.. unhurt and some money in your hand to buy another car

still wish it had not happened, but that's why it's called an accident right.

cheers

Stopped and took a look at the car on a whim. WOW! The damage is even worse than it looks in the pictures. Total is definitely the way to go on this car. Lets all just be glad that Larry came out OK from this hit. Cars can be repaired or replaced, but not always so for our health.

Yup, not too many people come out on the good side of an argument with a truck - any accident like that you can walk away from is a good one. I'm glad that this seems to be working out well.

Just got my offer from the insurance company. They are offering me $36,500 plus sales tax on a new transaction. The comps that they used were all Coupes, and they could only find 3 other cars to compare to - One was in Rockford. Their comps need to be all from dealers. The price that they have offered me is reasonable. I am confident that I can find a nice car for that. But, that being said, I have three issues:

1. They have ignored the fact that I spent $750 to put a clear bra on my car. They said that they would add that on at the end.
2. They have only added on $250 for the price differential between the Coupes that they found and my Targa. Considering that the Targa's are more unusual, and had a $7,400 add on at the time of purchase, I was hoping for a bit more of an upcharge.
3. They deducted $3,500 from each of the comps because a car at a dealer was in $3,500 better shape than a privately owned car.

On the purchase side - I need to move up my timeframe a bit, because their payment for sales tax is only good for 30 days. I'm not really sure what kind of a car I want. Now that I've been on this board for a while, and have driven my car for a few months, I am thinking . . . . . .

Found a 2003 Speed Yellow C4 Cab with 35K miles on it for $31K. There are a list of people that are interested in the car. I'm next on the list if the current guy doesn't get his deposit in during the next day or so. The car has sport seats, with backs painted yellow, yellow seat belts, Bose sound, Xenon lights, carbon/aluminum brake lever, park assist, logo in headrest. I just LOVE the color. Nothing subtle about that car!!!!

Also found a 40th anniv for $34K at a dealer. The car has 28K miles on it. In spite of the fact that I really don't want a silver car (it seems that half the Pcars for sale are silver or grey, and the other half are black) this is a LOT of car for the money. And there's something special about having a special edition car. And maybe I can squeeze the dealer for another thou or so.

Also found a 04 Cab in silver (no surprise there) with 21K miles, for $34,900 at a dealer - so I think that there's another thou or two in the price. Stability control, Xenon lights, full leather interior, windscreen.

And there are others, these just jumped out at me as low mileage, late model, price is right. Oh, and for added interest, found a 997 cab for sale for $39.9 with a tuned chip, fabspeed cats, headers and mufflers and a cold air intake. They are claiming 405 HP. It's out of my price range, but I'll bet that baby will suck you back into your seat. Kind of an odd color red.

I guess I won't have a hard time finding a car, I just need to figure out what I want. There are low mileage, well equipped cars out there. Which one is the question.

Your advice is welcomed. (as if I could stop you)

Larry you are in a good spot...... I would go with the most you can spend on top of what they are giving you.

Keep us up to date on the pending purchase.

Thank your lucky stars you are getting a settlement like this because you are looking a gift horse in the mouth. .............I'm glad it turned out well and look forward to seeing the new ride.

Take what they offer and learn from the experience.

I'd look for a MK1 with full OEM Aero Kit (White, Red, Yellow)...with enough $$$ for a Supercharger

I would contact the company that installed the clear bra and ask for your money back. It obvioulsy failed in protecting your car from being damaged. JK. Glad you're ok and it seems like the outcome is a favorable one.
