Oh Bob, you know me better than that. I am a track addict and absolutely LOVE racing. The problem is that I decided to start a family. Now that there are 2 little ones (1 and 3) I just don't have the time to dedicate to racing right now. I will be back soon. I just need the kiddos to get a bit older. If I can't win or challenge for a win then I won't race. And that takes dedication getting to the track to work on the craft.

Besdies, with all the new found surplus in my bank accounts, I have been able to build an amazing dedicated home theater at the house, buy another car, and look into buying a beach house. Who knew?

I really wanted to come down this weekend but trick or treating in the 'hood is something I can't take away from the little guy. He loved it when he just turned 1, year before last and did the paddock trick or treating during the race weekend. But now all he can talk about is going to all the houses here in the 'hood. Sacrifices.

And yes.....you were a great mentor

ps. it also doesn't help when it takes 8 months to build a race car. That missed time took it's toll on me...I missed countless events as well as 3 races

Default Missing the WZ festivities...

I'm one weekend away from being back on the road... There's a long thread on 928 forum discussing my current situation... New part arriving tomorrow and re-assembly on Saturday/Sunday... I'll be growling around Apex again soon!

Default Transmission oil change...on my 6 speed.

Went for a ride to warm up my Porsche for a tranny fluid change earlier today. Had purchased several allen head sockets and a 17mm triple square, and come to find my '99 requires only a 10mm allen socket for both the fill and drain plugs. They were both torqued very tight. The hardest part was refilling the transmission with new fluid, a lift would have made this so much easier.I decided to go with Swepco 201 from Pelican Parts.
Afterwards,I had to go for another drive to see if I could detect any improvement in shifting, and I think it is certainly smoother than before. The real test comes when the temps drop, I'm hoping my Porsche will shift easier after a cold start up, than it did with the Porsche recommended oil.Anyway, if you've been meaning to change your transmission fluid, do it, it's pretty easy.

No worries posting here as we are quite the DIY group here in NC! If you have never replaced the tranny fluid chances are it was borderline seized on. Several of the guys early 996s required a breaker bar when we did about 6 gearboxes here at my place a few months back. And yes, a lift makes it a breeze!

Stainless (plug) + Aluminum (case/pan); differing metals I read can seize together like that; IDK; maybe they both are aluminum; likely no one has ever broken them loose before since the intervals are so long per the factory.

Thanks. Actually my Indy changed the trans oil about 12k miles ago, or 3 years. I was concerned, but no longer.
