Another major side benefit to Bob having this collection is a positive financial investment. Bob told me at the last event his Financial Planner stated he wished Bob's portfolio did as well as his Porsche collection in increased value.

I agree that it's good that we have the collection locally and that someone like Bob is preserving them (and generous enough to allow us to visit them), but that still does not detract from that fact that the cars are meant to be driven and not become museum pieces.

To put things in perspective, Philadelphia has the Simeone Collection of distinguished race cars - a truly amazing collection.

All of the cars on display were driven hard throughout their lives and continue to be driven today. That is a collection that preserves the cars for posterity, but continues to use the cars as they intended.

Not misplaced at all. I don't care if he drives them or not. I am speaking as an enthusiast that LOVES to drive my car and don't care about the miles on it. However, I appreciate that he approaches his cars as an investment like a work of art (as I have already stated).

I give him because he has the ability to increase his net worth over time by having cars in his portfolio, and more importantly that he can show the restraint to not drive these as many of us would love to. I couldn't be as strong

This particular car was Fedex'd in from Europe, honest!
I also saw Bob driving his new 997.2 RS just the other day in RTP.

"Some cars are meant to be driven, some are now just too valuable to be on the street" that is how Bob explained his feelings about this on Saturday morning. During conversations with Bob, his wife and his son, they all seemed excited about their newest acquisition, the 550 Spyder. After talking to them about it, I was surprised to find out that Bob and his wife were planning a full day drive "out in the county" in the 550 on Sunday morning.

These are the couple of lines I liked most:

"Forget all that remember one thing. You suck as a driver. If you can keep that straight, nothing else matters."

"At the track he realized that safe, controlled, speed, on a closed circuit, was more fun than just "getting it up to 120" on the highway."

Pretty funny. Nice article though.

Hey, I freely admit that I suck as a driver and that my car is more capable than I am. I'm already at the end point.

Sleep deprived much Scott?

Relative to our cars, we all suck.

Yup, after 3 they start to do better.

I honestly don't remember the last time that my 5 year old woke us up... he sleeps all the way through and has been quietly playing in his room when he wakes up in the morning since he was around 4 years old.
