Default Looking for roof rack

Pending a favorable PPI, it looks like I'll be getting a car that's about 600 miles away. It comes with an extra set of wheels, and so I'm thinking about a roof rack. I did some searching in the forum and see many folks have had good luck with that.

Does anyone have a roof rack for sale? (Or for loan?)

Thanks!

I don't have one, but I think they are different for the narrow body and wide body cars... what's the car specs?

Catalog lists only 3 part numbers so I think there is no difference between the narrow and wide variants when it comes to the mounting locations for the rack:

98- Coupe : 996.801.105.00
98- Cabrio : 996.801.055.00
02- Targa : 996.801.065.00

my advice:

Ditch the expense for roofrack and just pay for shipping the tires to your house. In long run probably cheaper and much much much less of a hassle.

Hope PPI trns out well for you.

Riad - I don't think that is true. The "hips" are wider on the wide body cars but the roof is the same on both narrow body and wide body cars. There are 3 different base frames for the roof rack system:

Coupe - Part no. 996 801 105 00
Cab - Part no. 996 801 055 00
Targa - Part no. 996 801 065 00

It's a '99 C4. (My understanding is all of the '99 to '01 cars are narrow body?)

You're right, shipping might be easier... Tire Rack ships wheels with just a round cardboard disk over the front of the rim, right? Maybe I could do that.

You can ship wheels mounted with tires like that without much risk of damage. But wheels without tires really need to be boxed, two per box, with a lot of padding (foam, or several layers of thick cardboard) on the bottoms, sides, and between the wheels to prevent damage of the edge of the wheels. I've shipped several sets like that via Fed Ex ground service without any problems. I'm sure that'd be cheaper than a roof transport system.

Empty out the air before shipping. They'll weigh less, save you money on shipping.

Probably so, I wasnt worried about it. Used a corporate DHL account. Actually was about $75 bucks and was worth paying for shipping the "air" so the buyer could have a set able to be bolted on upon delivery.....
